Be Sure Electronic Controllers Are Grounded At Machine Service Inspections {1408,1901,5702}

Usage:

M312 (6TL),
M315 (7ML),
M318 (6ES, 8AL, 8SS),
M320 (6WL, 9PS) Excavators

The engine controller and the engine/pump controller should be checked for proper grounding during any required inspection or servicing. An unsatisfactory ground connection from the controller assembly can cause faulty signals to and from the controllers. A good electrical ground will assure efficient machine operation.

Fluctuating signals from the controllers due to a poor ground can cause the engine speed to fluctuate as well. The fluctuation of the engine speed will limit the main pump performance and in turn reduce machine capability.

The following table shows the part numbers of the two control assemblies that should be inspected for a good ground connection. The illustration shows location of the control assemblies.

(1) Engine control assembly.
(2) Engine and hydraulic pump control assembly.
(3) Ground connection.
