Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Typical example

  1. Disconnect fuel line (2) and fuel line (3) from the fuel transfer pump (1). Immediately cap all openings or plug all openings in order to prevent contamination.

  1. Remove four bolts (4) that secure fuel transfer pump (5) to the engine.

  1. Remove fuel transfer pump (5) and the gasket from the engine.

    Note: If the fuel transfer pump cannot be removed easily, rotate the crankshaft until pressure is removed from the rocker lever of the fuel transfer pump.
