Assembly Procedure for the Hydraulic Track Adjuster on CIPI Undercarriage Arrangements which are Based on 330 and 330B Track Type Excavators
- Make sure that all of the parts of the hydraulic track adjuster are clean and free of dirt and debris prior to assembly. Check the condition of O-ring seals (1) and backup rings (2) and (3). If any of the components are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

- Install O-ring seals (1) and backup rings (2) and (3) on piston (4), as shown.
Note: Install backup rings (2) and (3) and O-ring seals (1) on piston (4), as shown. Backup rings (2) and (3) can be identified by color. Backup ring (2) is brown. Backup ring (3) is black. Do not interchange the position of the backup rings and the O-rings. When piston (4) is installed in cylinder (8), make sure that the piston is kept square with the cylinder in order to prevent possible damage to the backup rings and the O-ring seals.
- Apply a small amount of 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease on the sliding surface of piston (4). Make sure that the grease covers backup rings (2) and (3) and O-ring seals (1). Also, put grease in the lower end of cylinder (8). This will prevent air from getting into the cylinder during installation of the piston. Install piston (4) in the cylinder. It may be necessary to use a soft hammer to install the piston in the cylinder.
- Center the piston in the cylinder. Apply a small amount of 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease on the inside diameter of seal (9). Install seal (9) in the cylinder, as shown. Install the seal even with the outside surface of the cylinder. Do not install the seal more than 0.5 mm (0.02 inch) below the outside surface of the cylinder.
- Install relief valve (5) and fill valve (6) in the cylinder. Tighten the relief valve and the fill valve to a torque of 34 ± 5 N·m (25 ± 4 lb ft).
- Install stopper plate assembly (7) and the two bolts which secure the stopper plate assembly.
End By: Install the hydraulic track adjuster. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track Adjuster - Install" in this manual.

Note: Make sure that all of the parts of the hydraulic track adjuster are clean and free of dirt and debris prior to assembly.
- Make sure that all of the passages in the piston assembly are filled with 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease. Make sure that air is not trapped in the passages in the piston assembly.
- Install relief valve (12) in the body of the piston assembly. Do not tighten the relief valve.

- Install fill valve (13) in the body of the piston assembly. Tighten the fill valve snugly. Do not torque the fill valve.
- Install plate (10). Install bolts (11) which secure plate (10) .

- Install backup rings (7), backup rings (8) and O-ring seals (9) on piston assembly (5) .
Note: O-ring seals and backup rings must be installed in the correct position in order to ensure the correct operation of the hydraulic track adjuster. Backup rings are distinguished by the color of the ring. Backup rings (7) are black in color. Backup rings (8) are brown in color.

Note: Completely fill the seal grooves in the piston assembly with 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease. The grease will displace air when the O-ring seals and the backup rings are installed.
- Install O-ring seal (3) and backup ring (4) in cylinder (2) .
Illustration 5 | g00526451 |
Note: Completely fill the seal groove for O-ring seal (3) and backup ring (4) in cylinder (2) with 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease. The grease will displace air when the O-ring and the backup ring are installed.
- Apply 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease in the groove for lip seal (6). Use Tooling (A) to install lip seal (6). Install lip seal (6) until the seal is 0.5 ± 0.5 mm (.02 ± .02 inch) below the surface of cylinder (2). Install lip seal (6) with the lip toward the outside of cylinder (2) .
- Check the condition of the threads on rod (1). If the threads are damaged or worn, replace rod (1) with a new part. Put a small amount of 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease on the sliding surface of rod (1). Install rod (1) in cylinder (2) .
- Fill the cavity of cylinder (2) with 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease .
- Put a small amount of 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease on the sliding surface of piston assembly (5). Put a minimum of 60 cc (4 in3) of 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease on the end of piston assembly (5). This grease will prevent air from displacing grease in the cylinder during the installation of the piston. Make sure that the grease covers backup rings (7) and (8) and O-ring seal (9) .
- Center piston assembly (5) in cylinder (2). Insert the piston assembly into the cylinder.
Note: It may be necessary to use a soft faced hammer to install the piston assembly into the cylinder.
- Make sure that grease is expelled from the vent hole for the relief valve. Tighten relief valve (12) to a torque of 34 ± 5 N·m (25 ± 4 lb ft).
- Add approximately 5 cc (.3 in3) of 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease through fill valve (13). Apply a force to piston assembly (5) and open fill valve (13) in order to purge all the air from the hydraulic track adjuster.
- Tighten fill valve (13) to a torque of 34 ± 5 N·m (25 ± 4 lb ft).
End By: Assemble the recoil spring. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Recoil Spring - Assemble".
