Introduction

This Special Instruction outlines the procedures needed to install the 418-5883 Lifting Kit (Four Point and FOPS II) for certainD-Series skid-steer loaders, compact track loaders, and multi terrain loaders.

Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read the information and you understand the information.

Climbing equipment may be required to access this service point. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Mounting and Dismounting" topic for safety information.

Before servicing/performing maintenance on the machine, electrical power must be physically disconnected; battery plugs must be disconnected from the batteries, or the trailing cable must be unplugged, and warning tags and padlocks shall be applied by a certified electrician. Certified electricians shall perform or direct any electrical work, including any energized testing, repair work in controllers, motors, or other approved compartments, and shall insure that all compartments are properly closed and inspected prior to re-energization. All applicable lock out and tag out procedures must be followed.

Do not operate the machine if any guards or covers are missing or inadequately secured. Personnel could be seriously injured or machine damage may occur.

Observe the safe working load limits of all lifting and blocking devices and keep a safe distance from suspended/blocked loads. Personnel may be seriously injured or killed by falling loads.

Machine Preparation

  1. Park machine on level ground.

  2. Shut down machine and perform lock out / tag out procedure. Attach a "Do Not Operate" warning tag or similar warning to the start switch or the controls before attempting the installation procedure.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install 345-6070 ROPS/FOPS Guard Gp according to the installation procedures outlined in the OMM.

    (D1) 18 mm (0.71 inch) diameter
    (D2) 18 mm (0.71 inch) diameter
    (D3) 142 mm (5.60 inch)

  2. Mark and drill two holes (D1) and (D2) directly above the current bolts and 142 mm (5.60 inch) (D3) from the bottom of the FOPS II plate. Refer to Illustration 2.

    Note: (D1) and (D2) holes may require the use of pilot holes.

  3. Plate (5) should be placed on the outside of the ROPS/FOPS guard gp (2). Install machine lifting group (1) over (5). Refer to Illustrations 34.

  4. Install plate (3) using two nuts (4) on the inside of 345-6070 ROPS/FOPS Guard Gp. Refer to Illustration 5.

  5. Apply Loctite Threadlocker Blue 243 and torque 8T-1757 Nuts to 240 ± 40 N·m (177 ± 30 lb ft).

    Note: Allow Loctite to cure for at least 24 hours.

  6. Repeat Steps 2–5 on the opposite side of the machine.

  7. Install the rear lift eyes according to instructions for 417-4606 Machine Lifting Gp.
