Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

The primary engine intake filter may not reach desired life on the machines listed above. The machines may experience premature triggering of error code EID 583 due to face plugging of the primary engine intake filter.

Caterpillar is aware of this problem and is recommending the following interim corrective solution.

If the EID 583 error code is displayed on the monitor, replace the 386-2099 Air Filter Element with the new 490-3648 Air Filter Element. The new UHE special application primary air filter element has flexible pleats that allow larger debris to penetrate the filter instead of collecting on the face of the filter.

Ensure to provide feedback on the effectiveness of this repair to Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) team through the CPI feedback function within Service Information Management System (SIMS).
