Walk-Around Inspection

Personal injury or death can result from improperly checking for a leak.

Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak. Escaping air or fluid under pressure, even a pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue causing serious injury, and possible death.

If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.

NOTICE

Accumulated grease and oil on a machine is a fire hazard. Remove this debris with steam cleaning or high pressure water, at least every 1000 hours or each time any significant quantity of oil is spilled on a machine.


Note: If major repairs to the demolition tool are required, consult your Caterpillar dealer.

  1. For the maximum service life of the work tool, make a thorough walk-around inspection before mounting the machine and starting the engine.

  1. Inspect the work tool for the following conditions: loose bolts, worn cutter, worn teeth and oil leaksbroken parts and worn parts. Inspect the work tool for missing parts. Check the overall condition of the work tool. Check the overall condition of the hydraulic system.

  1. Inspect the condition of the hydraulic lines and the hydraulic fittings.

  1. Inspect the cutting jaw. Remove scrap from the jaw.

  1. Inspect the welds, the pins, and the bores for damage. If the components are damaged, consult your Caterpillar dealer.

  1. Perform all repairs before putting the work tool into service.

  1. Check the hydraulic oil. Maintain the oil to the proper level. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for your machine.
