Protection Plates for the Torque Converter Sound Suppression are Now Used on Certain 770G Off-Highway Trucks {3105} Caterpillar

Description Of Change: Protection plate for torque converter sound suppression is now available for the machines listed above. New protection plate effectively protects the sound suppression arrangement.

New protection plate (1) and plate assembly (2) are adaptable to the machines within the listed serial numbers, and are effective with all machines after the listed serial numbers.

Follow the rework procedure given below to install new plate (1) and plate assembly (2) to the sound suppression system.

Rework Procedure

1. Move and secure machine to a safe area.

   1. Shut off engine.

   2. Place in park.

   3. Chock wheels.

2. On the right side of the torque convertor, remove the bolts at the 4:00 position and 7:00 position of the oil hose connection flange on the lower portion of the torque convertor.

3. Install stud (3) to each hole using existing washers (B) as shown in Illustration 3.

4. On the left side of the torque convertor, remove the bolts at the 5:00 position and 9:00 position on the oil fill tube flange.

5. Install stud (4) to each hole using existing washers (B) as shown in Illustration 5.

   Note: If required, install and secure new insulation pad around torque convertor.

6. Place hard washers (5) on each stud (4) as shown in Illustration 6.

7. Install plate assembly (2) to studs (4) using two nuts (7) and two washers (6) as shown in Illustration 7.

8. Place washer (8) on each stud (3) as shown in Illustration 9.

9. Install plate assembly (2) to stud (3) using two full nuts (9) and two washers (6) as shown in Illustration 10.

10. Install bottom plate (1) to the side support plate assemblies (2) using four bolts (10), four washers (11), four rubber mounts (12) and four washers (13) as shown in Illustration12.

    Note: Install 9L-8781 Washer (11) against bolt head (10).
