New Protection Plates for the Torque Converter Sound Suppression are Now Used On Certain 772G Off-Highway Trucks {3105} Caterpillar

Description Of Change: New protection plates for the torque converter sound suppression are now used on the machines listed above. New protection plates effectively protects the sound suppression arrangement.

New protection plate (1) and plate assembly (2) are adaptable to the machines within the listed serial numbers, and are effective in production with all machines after the listed serial numbers.

Use the following rework procedure to install protection plate (1) and plate assembly (2) in torque converter sound suppression.

Refer to Table 1 for the parts required to install protection plate (1) and plate assembly (2) in torque converter sound suppression.

Rework Procedure

1. Move machine to safe area and secure.

   1. Shut off engine

   2. Place in park

   3. Chock wheels

   Right side of the torque converter (A) 6V-5839 Washer (3) 249-2943 Stud

2. Remove and discard the bolts at 3:00 position and 9:00 position of the oil hose connection flange on the lower portion of the torque converter.

3. Install stud (3) to each hole using existing washers (A) as shown in Illustration 2.

4. Remove and discard the bolts at 5:00 position and 9:00 position on the oil fill tube flange.

5. Install stud (5) to each hole using existing washer (A) on the oil fill tube flange.

6. Place hard washer (4) on each stud (5) as shown in Illustration 3.

   Note: If required, install and secure new insulation pad around torque converter.

7. Install plate assembly (2) using two washers (6) and two nuts (7) as shown in Illustration 4.

8. Place hard washer (4) on each stud (3) as shown in Illustration 5.

9. Install plate assembly (2) using two washers (6) and two full nuts (8) as shown in Illustration 6.

10. Assemble bottom plate (1) to right side support plate assembly (2) and left side support plate assembly (2) using four rubber mounts (9), four washers (10), four washers (11), and four bolts (12) as shown in Illustration 7.

    Note: Install washer (11) against bolt head (12).
