Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately. |

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Raise hood (1) by activating switch (2). Turn off disconnect switch (3) after hood (1) has been raised.

- Open drain valve (5) and drain the fuel into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System Primary Filter (Water Separator) - Drain".
- Remove hose (6).

Illustration 6 g06375754 - Use Tooling (A) to remove fuel housing assembly (10). Remove fuel housing assembly (10). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System Primary Filter (Water Separator) element - Replace".

- Install fuel filter base and priming pump (12) in the reverse order of removal.
- Use the following procedure to tighten fuel housing assembly (12):
- Lubricate the seal and bore of fuel housing assembly (10) lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed. Install fuel housing assembly (10) in vertical orientation only.
- Tighten fuel housing assembly (10) to a torque of
100 ± 5 N.m (74 ± 4 lb ft) . - Ensure that there is no gap between fuel housing assembly (10) and the filter base.
- Tighten sensor assembly (4) to a torque of
2.5 ± 0.5 N.m (22.1 ± 4.4 lb in) .
- Use the following procedure to tighten fuel housing assembly (12):
