There are many factors that affect the service life of the circle drive. The service life of the circle drive can vary based on the applications. Some of the factors can be controlled to improve the service life of the circle drive.
Lubrication
Use only the specified oils in the circle drive group. Change the oil in the circle drive at the specified interval.
Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the recommended service interval and for the recommended oils.
Note: Do no use any other type of oil besides the specified oils. Other oils have different viscosities and additive which would change the friction between the clutch discs. This would lead to an incorrect clutch setting. The oils specified provide the best lubrication between the worm and worm gear.
Circle Drive Slip Clutch Setting
The correct slip clutch setting will ensure that the slip clutch will work as specified. If the slip clutch is set incorrectly, the circle drive may slip excessively or circle drive components may be damaged.
Refer to Table 1 for the Disassembly and Assembly Manual for your machine.

Worm Gear Bearing Preload
The correct preload setting will ensure that the worm is properly aligned with the worm gear. The correct preload will ensure that the worm remains the correct position in relation to the worm gear.
Refer to Table 1 for the Disassembly and Assembly Manual for your machine.
Note: Failure to set the preload properly can result in premature wear or failure of the worm gear.
Reference: To determine worm gear reuse, refer to Reuse and Salvage Guideline, SEBF9328, "Reusability of Worm Gear Set".
