Reference Information  Systems Operation, RENR2223, "Oil Renewal System for Off-Highway Trucks

The chassis ECM controls the installation status of the feature. The oil renewal system must be set to "Installed" and "Enabled" in order for the system to become functional on the machine.

The rate of oil injection into the fuel system can be adjusted by connecting to the engine ECM. Factory passwords must be obtained for configuring the system.

The "Oil Injection Rate" is used to adjust the rate of oil that is injected into the fuel system. This parameter is used to establish a deviation from the baseline value that is programmed at the factory. This baseline value for oil consumption is based on the percentage of engine oil that is scheduled for consumption by the engine. This quantity of oil is directly related to the load factor or the percentage of fuel consumed by the engine over a specific time period.

Increment this parameter to increase the percentage of engine oil that is metered into the fuel. Decrement this parameter to decrease the percentage of engine oil that is metered into the fuel.

The actual oil delivery into the fuel system is calculated by the engines ECM. The adjustment is partially based on the following items:

  • Engine load factor

  • Engine oil pressure

  • Jacket water coolant temperature

The default setting for the "Oil Injection Rate" is zero when the system is initialized. At this setting, every 3.78 L (1 US gal) of fuel that is burned there will be 0.5 percent of oil that is injected. Only adjust the rate of metering if the S·O·S Oil Analysis determines that additional adjustment for the system is needed. The range of the parameter is from a value of "-50" to "+50". Entering "-50" will decrease the default rate of oil injection by 50 percent. Entering "+50" will increase the default rate of oil injection by 50 percent.

The correction factor in intended to accommodate various changes in the nominal machine speed factor. For example, changes in tire size (due to non-standard sizes, inflation pressure differences), could cause the nominal machine speed calculation to be incorrect. The machine speed correction factor may not be changed unless the machine is stationary. The Machine speed correction factor may be calculated with the following formula:

Actual speed of the machine minus the reported speed of the machine divided by the reported speed of the machine. Then, multiply the total by 100%.

The actual speed of the machine is the true speed of the machine. As an example, this speed could be measured with a radar gun. The reported speed of the machine is the speed of the machine as calculated by the ECM. The reported speed of the machine is displayed by the monitoring system and in the Cat ET.

The following are two examples of the machine speed correction factor calculation:

The actual speed of the machine is 52 km/h (32.3 mph) and the reported speed of the machine is 50 km/h (31 mph). Then, [( 52 km/h (32.3 mph) - 50 km/h (31 mph)) ÷ 50 km/h (31 mph)] × 100%. The machine speed correction factor is +4.0%

The actual speed of the machine is 48 km/h (30 mph) and the reported speed of the machine is 50 km/h (31 mph). Then, [( 48 km/h (30 mph) - 50 km/h (31 mph)) ÷ 50 km/h (31 mph)] × 100%. The machine speed correction factor is −4.0%

Machine Overload Speed Limit Enable Status

Illustration 50g06114561
Machine Overload Speed Limit Enable Status Screen

This configurable parameter is used to allow the customer / dealer to program if an overload speed limit is imposed at the mine site. Not enabling this feature will reduce frame life.

The purpose of Throttle Lock allows desired engine speed to be electronically held at the full throttle value without the throttle pedal depressed. The feature only works when in a selected gear, and under certain conditions. Allowing desired engine speed to be electronically held at full throttle provides:

  • Relief for the operator during long periods of full throttle operation.

  • Potential to reduce hunting by providing continuous full throttle operation on uphill hauls.

  • Reduced drivetrain torque spikes due to potential for reduced hunting.

Reference Information  Service Magazine, SEPD1547, "The Caterpillar Flat Haul Economy Mode (FHEM) System is Available for the 797F Off-Highway Truck"

During flat haul operation, the machine can operate steady state at engine part load conditions. This feature works with the Engine ECM to provide better fuel economy in that situation. Remember that this feature is for long flat hauls at limited machine speeds that are configured by mine site personnel based on application. Contact an LMT product support representative for more details before enabling the feature. Once enabled, the machine speed limit must also be set for proper operation.
