(1) Apply 9S-3263 Thread Lock on the threads of ten bolts.

(2) Apply 9S-3263 Thread Lock on the threads of 20 bolts.

(3) Apply 8C-8422 Sealant to the surfaces of gear (3) prior to assembly.

(4) Apply grease to the surfaces in contact with the seal prior to assembly.

(5) At assembly, O-rings of floating seal and all surfaces in contact with the O-rings must be clean and dry. Apply a thin coat of oil on the contacting surfaces of the metal seals before installation.

(6) Apply 5P-3931 Anti-seize Compound to the surfaces in contact with cup (16) and cone (6).

(7) Apply 9S-3263 Thread Lock on the threads of 12 bolts.

(8) Apply 5P-3931 Anti-seize Compound to the surfaces in contact with six pins.

(9) After installing seven pins, make stake marks near the opening of each pin hole. An example is shown in View D-D.

(G) Distance from edge of pin hole to stake mark ... 1.5 to 3.0 mm (0.059 to 0.118 inch)

(10) Use the shim to adjust the clearance.

Clearance (X) ... 1.0 to 2.6 mm (0.04 to 0.10 inch)
7Y-0808 Shim thickness ... 1.6 mm (0.06 inch)

(11) Torque for two plugs ... 80 ± 10 N·m (59.0 ± 7.4 lb ft)

(12) Apply 9S-3263 Thread Lock on the threads of two setscrews.

Use the following procedure to adjust the preload of cone (6) :

  1. Place a load "P" of 10000.0 kg (22046.20 lb) on cone (6) .

  1. Rotate the housing (14) in order to seat the bearing.

  1. Reduce load "P" to 3500.0 ± 350.0 kg (7716.17 ± 771.62 lb).

  1. Measure dimension (F) .

  1. Measure dimension (E) of gear (15) .

  1. Use shims (13) to achieve the correct clearance between cone (6) and gear (15). Use Table 1 to determine the correct clearance.
