Accumulator (Blade Cushion) - Remove and Install

Personal injury can result from the sudden release of high pressure oil.

Be sure the engine has been shut off for a minimum of five minutes to ensure that the accumulator pressure is zero.

The accumulator is filled with dry nitrogen. Do not loosen or remove the valve or the cap from the top of the accumulator.



NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Note: Inspect the O-ring seals. Replace the O-ring seals that are worn or damaged.

  1. Release the system pressure.

  2. Connect the steering frame lock.

  3. Install Tooling (A) onto the hydraulic tank. Attach an air supply hose onto Tooling (A). Apply 138 kPa (20 psi). This procedure will pull a vacuum on the hydraulic system.

  4. Disconnect fittings (1). Disconnect harness assemblies (2).

  5. Loosen clamps (3). Remove accumulator (4).

  6. Remove manifold (5) from accumulator (4).

  7. Repeat Step 4 through Step 6 for the remaining accumulator.

  1. Install manifold (5) onto accumulator (4).

  2. Install accumulator (4). Tighten clamps (3).

  3. Connect harness assemblies (2). Connect fitting (1).

  4. Charge the blade cushion accumulator. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Accumulator (Blade Cushion) - Test and Charge".

  5. Repeat Step 1 through Step 4 for the remaining accumulator.

  6. Remove Tooling (A).
