1. Snap Spring for New 169-4290 Terminal Assembly May Fail And Result In Turbocharger Damage; 2. New Extension And Spacer Are Required For New Terminal Assembly

Usage:

ENGINESG3508 (4WD, 9TG),
G3512 (5JD, 7NJ),
G3516 (8LD, 4EK) ENGINES

Problem:

1. The snap spring (5) for the new 169-4290 Terminal Assembly (2) for the Electronic Ignition System (EIS) transformer may fail due to corrosion when exposed to gas. See Illustrations 1 and 2. Small pieces of the broken snap spring may enter into the combustion chamber during spark plug replacement. This may result in turbocharger damage when operating the engine.
2. The new 169-4290 Terminal Assembly is not compatible with the former 133-5078 Extension and 4P-6939 Spacer. Current parts information does not indicate that the former extension and spacer should be replaced when replacing the former 127-8893 Terminal Assembly with the new 169-4290 Terminal Assembly.

Solution:

1. Two 8C-3076 O-Ring Seals (4) have been added to the new 169-4290 Terminal Assembly (2). These new O-ring seals will retain the snap spring (5) if the snap spring fails. This will prevent broken snap spring parts from falling into the spark plug well and into the combustion chamber during spark plug replacement. If the engine is operating with a 169-4290 Terminal Assembly that does not have the two 8C-3076 O-Ring Seals, please check the terminal assembly for a broken snap spring before removing the spark plug. Please add two 8C-3076 O-Ring Seals to the 169-4290 Terminal Assembly before installing the transformer assembly back on the engine.
2. The new 169-4295 Extension (3) and 169-4292 (1) Spacer are available to use with the 169-4290 Terminal Assembly. Paper work is now being corrected to replace both the new extension and spacer, in addition to the new terminal, when replacing the former terminal assembly.

NOTE: The 125-0517 Service Repair Kit has been canceled because all of the components of the kit are individually serviceable.
