Start By:

  1. Remove the drum. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drum - Remove".

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Position wood blocks on both sides of the drum.

  2. Drain the oil from the final drive planetary into a suitable container. Refer to Operation and Maintenance for the correct procedure.

  3. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to the final drive planetary group.

  4. Remove eight bolts (2) and four bolts (8). Remove intermediate plate (4), drive plate (1), final drive planetary (6), drive mount (5), and piston motor (10) as a unit from the drum. The weight of intermediate plate (4), drive plate (1), final drive planetary (6), drive mount (5), and piston motor (10) as a unit is approximately 200 kg (440 lb). Position the unit on the ground with intermediate plate (4) on top.

  5. Remove eight bolts (9). Use a suitable lifting device to remove intermediate plate (4) from mounts (3). The weight of the intermediate plate is approximately 28 kg (62 lb).

  6. Remove 16 bolts (12). Remove four mounts (3) from drive plate (1).

  7. Remove the ten nuts that secure drive plate (1) to final drive planetary (6). Use a suitable lifting device to remove drive plate (1) from final drive planetary (6). The weight of drive plate (1) is approximately 21 kg (46 lb).

  8. Use a suitable lifting device in order to flip the unit.

  9. Remove bolts (11). Use two people to remove drum propel motor (10) from final drive planetary (6). The weight of piston motor (10) is approximately 30 kg (66 lb).

  10. Remove bolts (7) and use two people to remove drive mount (5) from final drive planetary (6). The weight of drive mount (5) is approximately 19 kg (42 lb).

Installation Procedure

  1. Use two people to position drive mount (5) on final drive planetary (6). The weight of drive mount (5) is approximately 19 kg (42 lb). Install bolts (7).

  2. Use two people to position piston motor (10) on final drive planetary (6). The weight of piston motor (10) is approximately 30 kg (66 lb). Install bolts (11).

  3. Use a suitable lifting device in order to flip the unit.

  4. Use a suitable lifting device to position drive plate (1) on final drive planetary (6). The weight of drive plate (1) is approximately 21 kg (46 lb). Install the ten nuts that secure drive plate (1) to final drive planetary (6). Tighten the ten nuts to a torque of 680 ± 60 N·m (500 ± 44 lb ft).

  5. Position four mounts (3) on drive plate (1) and install bolts (12).

  6. Use a suitable lifting device to position intermediate plate (4) on mounts (3). The weight of the intermediate plate is approximately 28 kg (62 lb). Install eight bolts (9).
