NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contamination of the hydraulic system with foreign material will reduce the service life of the hydraulic system components.

To prevent contaminants from entering the hydraulic system, always plug or cap the lines, fittings, or hoses as they are disconnected. Cover any disassembled components and clean them properly before assembly.

Clean the hydraulic system properly after any major component exchange or especially after a component failure, to remove any contamination.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

  1. Drain the hydraulic oil from the hydraulic tank into a suitable container. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the proper procedure for draining the hydraulic oil.

  10. Attach a suitable lifting device to both sides of drum (13). Raise the drum approximately 12.7 mm (0.50 inch). Install Tooling (A) under each side of yoke (14).

  11. Use a suitable lifting device to support the drum.

Note: Record the number of the shims and the thickness of the shims for installation purposes.

  12. Remove bolts (15) from both sides of the machine that secure drum (13) to yoke (14). Remove any shims between the mounting plates and yoke (14).

  13. Use a suitable lifting device to remove drum (13) from the yoke. The weight of a smooth drum is approximately 2100 kg (4630 lb). The weight of a padded drum is approximately 2500 kg (5510 lb).
