Tailgate (Scissors) - Remove and Install

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to tailgate (1). The weight of tailgate (1) is approximately 454 kg (1000 lb). Remove bolts (2) and spacers (3) that secure tailgate (1) to the arm assemblies. Remove shims (4) and tailgate (1) from the machine.

  2. Remove bolts (5) and the washers that secure shock absorbers (6) to tailgate (1).

  3. Attach a suitable lifting device to arm assembly (7). The weight of arm assembly (7) is approximately 163 kg (360 lb).

  4. Remove bolts (8), nut (9), and the washers that secure chain (10) to the mounting plate. Reposition chain (10) out of the way.

  5. Remove bolt (12) and washer (11). Remove arm assembly (7) from the machine.

  6. Use Tooling (A) to remove bushings (13) from the arm assembly.

  7. .Remove thrust washer (17) and pin (18). If equipped, disconnect grease line (16) from bracket (14). Remove bolts (15) and the washers. Remove bracket (14) and the shims.

  1. Install tailgate (1) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Use Tooling (B) to install bushings (13).

    2. Observe the clearances and fit of arm assemblies (7) and tailgate (1). Arm assemblies (7) must be clear from the body at either side and tailgate (1) must be central. There should be a clearance of 10 mm (0.4 inch) between the body and tailgate (1).

    3. The chain assemblies should start to raise the scissor tailgate arrangement when the body is raised to an angle of 5°.
