Introduction

The speed of the implements is affected by the amount of oil flow that is produced by the implement pump. Check the implement cycle times in order to determine if there may be a problem with the implement pump.

The implement cycle time can be checked in order to verify a complaint about slow implement speed. This test will also help to determine whether all functions are slow or only one function is slow.

Test Preparation

  1. Warm the hydraulic oil to normal operating temperature of 62° ± 8°C (143.6° ± 14.4°F).

  2. Move the machine to a smooth, level surface. Move away from working machines and personnel. Lower the bucket to the ground.

  3. Allow only one operator on the machine. Keep all personnel away from the machine or in the view of the operator.

  4. Place the transmission into neutral.

  5. Engage the parking brake.

  6. Place the steering frame lock in the LOCKED position.

  7. Enable hydraulic service mode.

Note: Insure pilot pressure is correct before performing any of the cycle time tests. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Pilot Pressure - Test" for your machine.

Note: The cycle time tests may also be performed using Cat ET.

Test Procedure

Raise Cycle Time

  1. Tilt back the bucket. Lower the lift linkage to the full LOWER position.

  2. Run the engine at high idle.

  3. Move the lift control lever to the full RAISE position. Hold the lift control lever in this position until the lift cylinder reaches the end of travel.

  4. Record the amount of time that is required for the work tool to travel from the ground to the full RAISE position.

Note: Refer to Table 2 for specifications.

Lower Cycle Time

  1. Tilt back the bucket. Raise the lift linkage to the full RAISE position.

  2. Run the engine at high idle.

  3. Move the lift control lever to the full LOWER position. Hold the lift control lever in this position until the lift cylinder reaches the end of travel.

  4. Record the amount of time that is required for the work tool to travel down to the full LOWER position.

Note: Refer to Table 2 for specifications.

Float Cycle Time

  1. Tilt back the bucket. Raise the lift linkage to the full RAISE position.

  2. Push the joystick into the FLOAT position and allow the linkage to drop on via gravity.

  3. Record the amount of time that is required for the work tool to travel down to the full LOWER position.

Note: Refer to Table 2 for specifications.

Dump Cycle Time

  1. Position the lift linkage to the MID LIFT position.

  2. Position the bucket to the full TILT BACK position.

  3. Run the engine at high idle.

  4. Raise the linkage to the mid lift and fully extend the tilt cylinder. The bucket will be fully racked. Give a full dump command.

  5. Record the time from the full RACKED position to the full DUMP position.

Note: Refer to Table 2 for specifications.

Rack Back Cycle Time

  1. Position the linkage so that the lift arms are at mid position and the bucket is fully dumped.

  2. Run the engine at high idle.

  3. With the linkage still in the mid lift position, ensure that the tilt cylinder is fully retracted. The bucket will be in the full dumped position. Give a full rack command.

  4. Record the time from the full DUMP position to the full RACKED position.

Note: Refer to Table 2 for specifications.
