Fan Speed (Ventilation) - Test

Usage:

AP-1055F RLM

------ WARNING! ------

Diesel engine exhaust contains products of combustion which may cause personal injury.

Always start and operate the engine in a well ventilated area, and, if in an enclosed area, vent the exhaust to the outside.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from rotating and moving parts. Stay clear of all rotating and moving parts.

Never attempt adjustments while the machine is moving or the engine is running unless otherwise specified.

The machine must be parked on a level surface and the engine stopped.

Attach a "Do Not Operate" or similar warning tag to the start switch and controls before servicing, repairing, or making adjustments to the machine.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.

Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine.

  1. Ventilation fan flow can be measured at the ventilation flow gauge (1). If the indicated flow is less than 0.6 inches (w.c.), the ventilation system and the pitot tube should be cleaned and inspected. If the indicated flow remains below specification, go to Step 2 to check ventilation fan speed.

    ------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from rotating and moving parts.

Moving fan blades and moving parts will throw or cut any object or tool that falls or is pushed into them.

Make sure no one is working on, underneath or close to an engine that is running. Make sure the area is free of personnel.

  6. Place piece of reflective tape (11) from Tool (A) on one of the blades of fan (10).

Test Procedure

Note: If the machine is configured with 10 m package, lower the auxiliary pressure to 14000 kPa (2030 psi) in order to perform this procedure. Refer to Systems Operation Testing and Adjusting, "Pump Control Valve (Auxiliary) - Test and Adjust". After completion of the test procedure, increase to the auxiliary pressure to 18000 kPa (2611 psi).

  1. Move machine power switch (12) to the ON position.

    Illustration 8g03668552

  2. Press push to start switch (14) for 2 seconds in order to start the engine. An LED next to the push to start switch will flash when the engine is in start mode. When the engine has started, the LED will remain illuminated.

Note: Only one attempt to start the engine is allowed per key cycle. A new key cycle will need to be done in order to restart the process.

  3. Operate the engine at low idle for a few minutes.

  4. Press the up arrow on throttle control switch (15) in order to place the engine in high idle. The engine speed should increase to 2200 rpm.

  5. Monitor the hydraulic oil temperature on operator display (13). Operate the machine until the oil temperature reaches 43 ± 5.6 °C (110 ± 10 °F).

  6. Measure fan speed with Tool (A). The fan speed should be 2200 ± 300 rpm.

  7. Press the down arrow on throttle control switch (15) in order to operate the engine in low idle.

  8. Shut off the engine. Either place machine power switch (12) in the OFF position or press and hold push to start switch (14) for 3 seconds. An LED next to the push to start switch will flash when the engine is in shutdown mode.

Note: The engine may run for several minutes when placed in the shutdown mode.

  9. If the engine was shut down using the push to start switch (14), move machine power switch (12) to the OFF position.

  10. If the ventilation fan speed is outside the specified range, inspect and clean the orifice in the flow control valve. If ventilation fan speed remains outside the specified range, repair or replace the ventilation fan motor.

  11. Replace fumes exhaust duct (9). Replace six bolts (8).

  12. Replace pitot tube housing (7). Replace four bolts (6).

  13. Replace fumes exhaust stack (2). Replace four bolts (3).

  14. Close rear engine compartment cover (5). Secure latches (4).
