Conveyor Drive Chain (Auger) - Check and Adjust

Usage:

AP-1055F RLM

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from rotating and moving parts. Stay clear of all rotating and moving parts.

Never attempt adjustments while the machine is moving or the engine is running unless otherwise specified.

The machine must be parked on a level surface and the engine stopped.

Attach a "Do Not Operate" or similar warning tag to the start switch and controls before servicing, repairing, or making adjustments to the machine.

Note: The following procedure describes the steps which are used to check and adjust the conveyor drive chain on the left side of the machine. The procedure for checking and adjusting the conveyor drive chain on the right side of the tractor is similar.

Introduction

This procedure provides the method used to check and adjust the tension of the conveyor drive chains.

Test Preparation

  1. Drive the machine to a smooth, horizontal surface.

  2. Move propel lever (4) to the NEUTRAL position.

  3. Press parking brake switch (5) in order to change the status of the parking brake to "engaged". When the parking brake status is "engaged", LED (2) next to the parking brake switch will be illuminated.

  4. Use travel mode switch (3) to select the PAVE mode. When the travel mode switch is set to PAVE mode, an LED next to PAVE symbol (1) will be illuminated.

Note: The machine must be in PAVE mode in order to operate the screed lift system, hopper system, apron system and auger lift system.

  8. Press the extend arrow on right screed extend switch (11). Release the switch when the right screed extender is fully extended.

  9. Press the extend arrow on left screed extend switch (10). Release the switch when the left screed extender is fully extended.

  10. Press the down arrow on throttle control switch (12) once in order to operate the engine in low idle.

  11. Shut off the engine. Either place machine power switch (13) in the OFF position or press and hold push to start switch (9) for 3 seconds. An LED next to the push to start switch will flash when the engine is in shutdown mode.

Note: The engine may run for several minutes when placed in the shutdown mode.

  12. If the engine was shut down using the push to start switch (9), move machine power switch (13) to the OFF position.

Check Procedure

  1. Remove eight bolts and washers from auger chain housing (14). Remove cover (15).

    Illustration 8g03429295

  2. Apply a pull force of 67 N (15 lb) to the midpoint of the auger chain. Measure the deflection of the chain. The deflection at the midpoint of the chain should be 5 ± 1 mm (0.2 ± 0.04 inch). If the measurement is outside the specified range, go to "Adjustment Procedure".

Adjustment Procedure

  2. Loosen lock nuts (18).

  3. Turn adjusting bolts (17) until the auger rotation is within the specified range.

  4. Tighten lock nut (18).

  5. Tighten mounting bolts (16).

  6. Position cover (15) on auger chain housing (14). Secure the cover with eight bolts and washers.
