Tilt Cylinder - Remove and Install

Usage:

424B JRN

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Release the system pressure.

------ WARNING! ------

Cylinders equipped with lock valves can remain pressurized for very long periods of time, even with the hoses removed.

Failure to relieve pressure before removing a lock valve or disassembling a cylinder can result in personal injury or death.

Ensure all pressure is relieved before removing a lock valve or disassembling a cylinder.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove retaining ring (2) and disconnect tube assembly (1).

  2. Disconnect hose assemblies (5). Remove bolt (3) and clip (4).

    Note: Typical example.

  3. Attach a suitable lifting device to tilt cylinder assembly (6). The bucket linkage will be removed with tilt cylinder assembly (6) as a unit. The weight of tilt cylinder assembly (6) and the bucket linkage is approximately 109 kg (240 lb).

  4. Remove retaining ring (10), washer (14), and pin (15). Note the number and the location of the shims for assembly purposes.

  5. Remove retaining ring (7), washers (8), and pin assembly (13). Note the number and the location of the shims for assembly purposes.

  6. Remove retaining ring (9), washers (11), and pin assembly (12). Note the number and the location of the shims for assembly purposes.

  7. Remove the tilt cylinder assembly (6).

  8. Disconnect hose assemblies (20) and tube assemblies (16) and (19).Remove bolt (21) and clamp (25).

  9. Remove bolts (22) and plate (23) repeat for the other side.

  10. Remove bucket links (17) and (18) from tilt cylinder (24). Repeat for the other side.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install tilt cylinder (24) in the reverse order of removal.

(1) Torque for the piston ... 580 ± 40 N·m (428 ± 30 lb ft)

(2) Apply Tooling (A) to the threads. Torque for the cylinder head ... 400 ± 50 N·m (295 ± 37 lb ft)

Note: Ensure that threads surfaces are thoroughly cleaned and free from oil, grease, dirt before applying adhesive.

(1) Torque for the locknut ... 735 ± 49 N·m (542 ± 36 lb ft)

(2) Apply Tooling (A) to the piston threads.

(3) Apply Tooling (B) to the threads. Torque for the cylinder head ... 490 ± 98 N·m (361 ± 72 lb ft)
