PROBLEM

| The existing software contains issues with SCR and NOx sensor diagnostics on certain C9.3, C13, C15, and C18 Industrial Engines, 834K Wheel Dozers, and 836K Landfill Compactors, 772G Off-Highway Trucks, and 988K Wheel Loaders 988K Wheel Loaders. If the existing software fails, it can lead to incorrect inducement actions and unnecessary NOx sensor replacement. Debris can easily enter the DEF tank through poor maintenance practices on certain 770G, and 772G Off-Highway Trucks, and 988K Wheel Loaders. This can lead to SCR system issues that create customer down time. |

| Note: Group 1 and Group 9 do not require software and only require the DEF Tank Adapter Assembly. Create a full Product Status Report for the machine before performing the updates as some configurations and settings may be erased during the software installation process. This will allow a point of reference to restore the settings of the machine after the update. 1. Before going to the machine, download all necessary software from SIS Web and DEF Tank Adapter Assembly as called out in the Parts Needed for the Affected Product group. Passwords will be required due to interlock changes. If passwords are not entered after flashing the engine software, the engine will not start. Note: SIS Web only displays the latest available flash file. 2. Before updating the software, save ECM replacement files for the available ECMs (in Cat ET: Use Service -> Copy Configuration -> ECM Replacement, click yes to load from ECM, select ECM then save to file. To do the next ECM click load from ECM then Save to file). Note: Failure to create ECM replacement files could result in a loss of configuration information which would require DSN assistance and create unnecessary machine downtime. 3. Flash engine and aftertreatment software as called out in the Parts Needed for the Affected Product group, or the latest files displayed in SIS Web. 4. For Group 2 988K Wheel Loaders, update the Implement software and Information Display module. Refer to KENR6489 Testing and Adjusting for the flashing procedure for the Information Display module. Note: Use the software listed in this letter. The serial number specific software listings in SIS may not contain the new software at this time. 5. As needed, upload the ECM replacement files taken earlier (in Cat ET: Use Service -> Copy Configuration -> ECM Replacement, select the desired file saved earlier, select Program ECM, select the appropriate ECM. To do another ECM click Load from File then select the desired replacement file). 6. If DEF Tank Adapter Assembly is called out in the Parts Needed for the Affected Product group, replace DEF Tank Adapter Assembly with 446-0473. |
