Note: When brake service is required, replace all the following components.

0.53 mm (0.021 inch).

Note: Check the O-ring seals, the gaskets, and the seals for wear or for damage. Replace the components, if necessary.

  1. Apply Tooling (B) to the machined surface of the differential housing and the parking brake housing.

    Note: Ensure the tabs on top reaction plate (11) are aligned correctly before installing the parking brake housing.

  1. Use a drive axle shaft or a cutoff section of an axle shaft (10) to align splines of the friction disc adapter with the differential.

  1. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to parking brake housing (1). The weight of the front parking brake housing is approximately 215 kg (474 lb). The weight of the rear parking brake housing is approximately 180 kg (397 lb).

  1. Install four captive nuts (3) in the recesses of parking brake housing (1) .

    ------ WARNING! ------

    Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury.

    To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.

  1. Lower parking brake housing (1) into position onto the reaction plate. Tighten four captive nuts (3) evenly to compress the parking brake springs.

  1. Install 22 bolts (2) that hold parking brake housing (1) to the differential housing.

End By:

a. Install the oscillating axle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Oscillating Axle (Rear) - Install".

b. Install the fixed axle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fixed Axle (Front) - Install".

c. Install the final drive and wheel. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Final Drive and Wheel - Install".
