Correct Adjustment And Installation Procedure For Engine Speed Timing Sensor{1912}

Usage:

3176 Truck Engines

Reference: 3176 Truck Engine, Disassembly and Assembly Modules, SENR3914-01 and SENR5109, "Adjustment/Installation Procedure for the Engine Speed Timing Sensor."

Incorrect installation or adjustment of the Engine Speed Timing Sensor may prevent the engine from starting. Follow the corrected procedure listed below when replacing or readjusting the Engine Speed Timing Sensor. Make these changes to the References.

1. Prior to installation of the engine speed timing sensor, pull the black plastic slip head all the way out at the end of sensor. This is approximately 6.5 mm (.26 in) from the end of the slip head to the metal housing. Be careful not to damage the slip head when pulling it out.

2. Insert the sensor so it sits directly over a tooth on the timing ring. Avoid inserting the sensor over the gaps between teeth. Positioning the crankshaft at Top Dead Center for the No. 1 cylinder (compression or exhaust stroke) will ensure the correct location.

3. Once installed, tighten to 23.5 ± 3.5 N·m (17.5 ± 2.5 lb ft).

4. Connect the sensor to the wiring harness.

5. Position and install the clamp and bolt which hold the sensor's wiring in place.

6. Calibrate the engine speed timing sensor with the 7X1200 Timing Adapter Tool Group and ECAP. For calibration instructions, refer to the 3176 Truck Engine Electronic Troubleshooting Guide.
