Introduction

Use the solution that is identified below, in order to prevent cracks and leaks in the valve cover.

Problem

Valve covers on C9 Engines can potentially crack or oil leakage can occur because the incorrect seal and/or the spacer is installed.

Solution

The correct seals and spacers must be used with the proper valve mechanism covers. Failure to use the correct seals and/or spacers on the appropriate valve mechanism covers can result in engine oil leaks and/or failures of the valve mechanism cover.

The 285-4106 Valve Cover Seal and 358-7876 Spacer Sleeve must be used to the 358-7872 Valve Mechanism Cover Gp and the 358-7873 Valve Mechanism Cover Gp . Refer to Illustration 2.

The 263-7821 Valve Mechanism Cover Gp uses the 217-5701 Bulk Seal and the 246-5083 Spacer Sleeve . Refer to Illustration 3.

Refer to Table 2 for a list of parts for the 263-7821 Valve Mechanism Cover Gp .

If the 217-5701 Bulk Seal is used on the 358-7872 Valve Mechanism Cover Gp or the 358-7873 Valve Mechanism Cover Gp , then the assembly will leak oil.

Note: Failure to use the correct seals and spacers on the appropriate valve mechanism covers will result in failures of the valve mechanism cover.
