Engine and Torque Converter - Separate and Connect

Start By:

  1. Remove the engine and the torque converter. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine and Torque Converter - Remove".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.



NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Attach Tooling (A), Tooling (B), and a suitable lifting device onto torque converter (1). The weight of torque converter (1) is approximately 839 kg (1850 lb).

  2. Disconnect harness assembly (2) and harness assembly (3). Remove the connecting hardware.

  3. Remove bolts (4).

  4. Use Tooling (C) in order to separate torque converter (1) from the flywheel housing.

  5. Remove torque converter (1). Remove O-ring seal (5).

  1. Lubricate the seals and the bores lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.

  2. Install O-ring seal (5). Use Tooling (A), Tooling (B), and a suitable lifting device in order to install torque converter (1). The weight of torque converter (5) is approximately 839 kg (1850 lb).

  3. Connect harness assembly (3) and harness assembly (2). Install the connecting hardware.

  4. Install bolts (4).

End By:

  1. Install the engine and the torque converter. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine and Torque Converter - Install".
