Start By:

  1. Remove the bank valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bank Valve (Backhoe) - Remove".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Note: Do not damage the discs and the balls that are located on the valve assemblies, during the disassembly procedures. The discs and the balls are not serviceable components.

Note: Mark the location of the relief valves during the disassembly procedure.

  1. Remove nuts (1) and cover (2) .

  1. Remove O-ring seals (5) .

  1. Remove bolts (6). Remove housing assembly (7) and spool assembly (8) as a unit.

  1. Separate spool assembly (8) from housing assembly (7) .

  1. Remove the seals from housing assembly (7) .

  1. Remove lever (9) .

  1. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable vise in order to secure spool (11). Remove rod (15), the O-ring seal, retainer (14), spring (13), and retainer (12) from spool (11). Remove plug (10) and the O-ring seal from spool (11) .

  1. Remove thermal valve (16) .

  1. Remove backup ring (17) and O-ring seals (18) from thermal valve (16) .

  1. Remove bolts (19), cover (20), and the O-ring seals.

  1. Use Tooling (B) in order to remove plug (21). Remove plug (21), the O-ring seal, the spring, and the piston. Repeat for the opposite side.

  1. Use Tooling (B) in order to remove plugs (22). Remove plugs (22), O-ring seals (23), backup rings (24), springs (25), and poppet (26) .

  1. Remove stabilizer valve (27) and rods (28) .

  1. Repeat Steps 4 through Steps 14 for stabilizer valve (23) .

  1. Remove nut (30), coil assembly (29), and the O-ring seals.

  1. Remove nuts (34). Remove extendable stick valve (35), if equipped.

  1. Remove bolts (38) and cover assembly (39) .

  1. Remove bolts (37) and spool assembly (36) .

    Note: Do not slide the surface of seals in cover assembly (49) across the lands of spool (46) .

  1. Clamp the tang of spool (46) into a suitable vise in order to remove bolt (47). Remove bolt (47), retainer (43), spring (44), retainer (45), plate (48), and cover assembly (49) from spool (46) .
