Setup and Configuration for Health Interface Module (HIM) Caterpillar

Computer Setup

Usage:

- DNF
The Health Interface Module (HIM) is configured through the web interface for the HIM or through the web interface for the HIM Low Precision Global Positioning System Option (HIM LP GPS Option). A service laptop computer is used in order to access the web interface. An Ethernet cable connects the service laptop computer directly to the HIM or to the HIM LP GPS Option. The Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol settings (TCP/IP settings) for the service laptop computer need to be modified in order for the service laptop computer to communicate directly with the HIM or with the HIM LP GPS Option.

Modifying the Network Connection

Perform the following procedure in order to modify the "Network Connections" properties for the service laptop computer:

  1. Open the "Start" menu under the Microsoft Windows® application. Select "Control Panel".

Connection and Validation

Once the service laptop computer has been configured to communicate with the HIM or with the HIM LP GPS Option, perform the following procedure in order to connect the service laptop computer to the HIM or to the HIM LP GPS Option:

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable between the network port of the service laptop computer and the Ethernet port of the HIM or the Ethernet port of the HIM LP GPS Option.

The message "Local Area Connection is now connected" will be displayed in the lower right hand corner of the screen for the service laptop computer.

Note: If the service laptop computer does not indicate a connection to a local area network, then a cross over network cable will be required.

  1. Disconnect the power cable that is connected to the HIM or to the HIM LP GPS Option. Then, connect the power cable again.

    The HIM system will reboot.

Note: Rebooting is necessary in order for the HIM or the HIM LP GPS Option to recognize the connection to the service laptop computer.

Refer to Illustration 6. A valid connection will have the response that is shown.

If a response for a valid connection times out, verify the following items:

  • The network cable is connected to each network port.

  • The service laptop computer has a green light on the Ethernet port.

  • The HIM or the HIM LP GPS Option has power and the diagnostic plug can be used to verify that the power is on.

  • Rebooting of the HIM or the HIM LP GPS Option was performed after the physical connection was made to the service laptop computer.

Note: Refer to Systems Operation, "Diagnostic Tool" for information on using the diagnostic plug.
