Start By:
- Install the wheel chocks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Wheel Chock (Front and Remove) - Remove and Install".
- Install the retaining cable. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Truck Body Retaining Cable - Remove and Install".
- Release the pressure from the air system. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Tanks (Brake) - Purge".
- Release the pressure from the hydraulic system. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "System Pressure - Release".
The space between the body and the frame becomes a zero clearance area when the body is lowered. Failure to install the retaining cable can result in injury or death to personnel working in this area. |
In order to prevent possible personal injury, release the air pressure from the air tank before disconnecting any components of the air system. |
NOTICE |
---|
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin. Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly in order to relieve pressure. |
NOTICE |
---|
Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life. |
Note: Put identification marks on all hose assemblies and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to prevent contaminants from entering the system.
- Disconnect fitting (1). Disconnect hose assembly (2).
- Remove check valve (3).

NOTICE |
---|
Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life. |
Note: Inspect the O-ring seals. Replace the O-ring seals that are worn or damaged.
Note: Lubricate all of the O-ring seals lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.
- Install check valve (3).
- Connect hose assembly (2). Connect fitting (1).
- Charge the air pressure in the air tanks. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Starting with an External Air Supply".
- Purge the air from the hydraulic oil in the brake hydraulic system. Refer to Systems Operation/Testing And Adjusting, "Brake System Air - Purge".
