Engine Enclosure (Hood) - Remove

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or for disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".

  1. Loosen hose clamp (2) in order to disconnect hose (3) from ejector (1). Loosen clamp (4) and remove ejector assembly (1) .

  1. Disconnect hose (5). Loosen clamp (6) and disconnect elbow (7). Disconnect hose (8) .

  1. Remove bolts (9). Disconnect clip (10) and remove hose (11) .

  1. Reposition harness assemblies (12) .

  1. Disconnect harness assembly (13) and harness assembly (14) .

  1. Remove bolts (15) and reposition plate (16).

  1. Remove grommet (17) in order to remove harness assembly (14) from plate (16) .

  1. Loosen clamp (19) and remove precleaner assembly (18) .

  1. Disconnect harness assembly (20) and harness assembly (22) .

  1. Remove bolts (21) in order to reposition the circuit breaker panel.

  1. Remove bolts (23). Repeat on the opposite side.

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to engine enclosure (24). The weight of engine enclosure (24) is approximately 408 kg (900 lb). Disconnect ground shut off switch (26) .

  1. Remove bolts (25). Repeat on the opposite side.

  1. Use the suitable lifting device in order to remove engine enclosure (24) .
