Final Drive, Steering Clutch and Brake - Remove

Start By:

  1. Remove the drive axles. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive Axle - Remove".

  2. Separate the track. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track - Separate".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the final drive and transmission oil into a suitable container for proper storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual , "Final Drive and Transmission Oil - Change".

  2. Move the counterweight to the lowest position for the right side.

  3. Remove bolts (1).

  4. Adjust Tooling (A), as shown.

  5. Remove the ladder for the left side. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Ladder - Remove".

  6. Install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to final drive assembly (2). The weight of final drive assembly (2) is approximately 953 kg (2100 lb). Position Tooling (A), as shown. Remove bolts (3) and bolts (4). Remove final drive assembly (2).

    Note: DO NOT LOOSEN BOLT (5).

  7. Remove O-ring seals (6) and O-ring seal (7).
