Steering Link - Remove and Install

Start By:
- Install the wheel chocks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Wheel Chock (Front and Rear) - Remove and Install".
- Position Tooling (A), and suitable blocking under linkage assembly (1).

6.4 mm (0.25 inch) between slotted nut (4) and the steering arm. - Position Tooling (B) between steering arm (3) and link assembly (1). Position the strap from Tooling (B) around hose assembly (2). The weight of link assembly (1) is approximately
36 kg (80 lb) . - Strike Tooling (B) with a hammer until link assembly (1) separates from steering arm (3). Remove the strap and Tooling (B).
- Disconnect hose assembly (2). Remove nut (4).
- Repeat Steps 2 through 5 for the opposite end of linkage (1).
- Remove linkage assembly (1).

Illustration 4 g01325480 - Remove fitting (8). Remove seal (9). Remove ring (6). Remove cover (7).
- Position socket assembly in a suitable press. Use a press against race (11). Remove race (11) and ball stud (10).
- Repeat Steps 8 and 9 for the remaining socket assembly.

- Position socket assembly in a suitable press. Use a press against race (11). Install race (11) and ball stud (10).
- Install cover (7). Install ring (6). Install seal (9). Install fitting (8).
- Repeat Steps 1 and 2 for the remaining ball stud.
- Apply Tooling (C) to both ball studs.
- Place link assembly on Tooling (A) and the blocking. Install link assembly (1). The weight of link assembly (1) is approximately
36 kg (80 lb) . - Connect hose assembly (2). Install slotted nuts (4). Tighten slotted nuts (4) to a torque of
1360 N·m (1003 lb ft) . If the holes do not line up, advance slotted nuts (4) to the next hole. Install cotters (2). - Align the front wheels. Refer to Steering System Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Front Wheel - Align".

285 N·m (210 lb ft) .
