This Special Instruction provides the information that is necessary to install the 258-4127 Work Tool Wiring Kit on the listed machines.

Do not begin installation of this kit until you have read the information that is contained in this instruction.

  1. Harness (7) contains a round HD34 receptacle connector on one end of the harness. Insert this HD34 receptacle connector in the mounting hole in the 258-3247 Bracket As (A) on the left lift arm. Secure this connector with nut (4) and lockwasher (5). See Illustration 2.

    Note: Tighten the nut to a torque of 30.25 ± 1.25 N·m (22.3 ± 0.9 lb ft).

  1. Route the remaining length of harness (7) along the lift arm toward the rear of the machine. Secure the harness to the top tube that is mounted on the lift arm with seven cable straps (10), as shown. See Illustration 3.

  1. Continue to route harness (7) toward the rear of the machine. Then, route the end of the harness into the left tower. Secure the harness to the hoses with the cable straps that are shown in the illustrations. See Illustration 4. See Illustration 5.

  1. Pull the end of harness (7) through the service opening in the left tower and into the engine compartment, as shown. See Illustration 6.

    Secure the harness to one of the hoses at the service opening in the left tower with a strap (6) .

    Connect the harness connector to connector P-C19 on the 258-4108 Chassis Harness As (B). Secure the harness connector to harness (B) with one cable strap (10), as shown.

    Note: Ensure that the configuration of the harness connector matches the configuration that is provided in Table 2.

  1. Replace the left handle control group per Step 5.a through Step 5.k.

    Note: Raise the lift arms and engage the lift arm brace. Also, remove the windows from the left window assembly. Refer to "Loader Lift Arm Brace Operation" and refer to "Window - Clean" in the Operation and Maintenance manual for your machine.

    1. Remove the outside cover (C) in order to access the 12-pin connector for the control handle.

      Note: Remove screws (D) and remove screw (E) in order to remove the outside cover (C). Loosen screw (F) in order to remove cover (C). See Illustration 7.

      Retain the screws and the cover for the reinstallation.

    1. Locate the 12-pin connector for the control handle. Then, disconnect the connector from the harness connector.

      Note: Cut the cable ties that secure the harness wiring for the control handle.

    1. Remove boot (G) from the control handle. Retain the boot for the reinstallation.

    1. Remove four bolts (H) in order to free the base assembly of the joystick. See Illustration 9.

      Retain the bolts for the reinstallation.

    1. Remove screws (J) and locknuts (K) that secure the control handle to the base assembly. Then, withdraw the control handle from the base assembly. Remove the control handle and the attached electrical harness from the machine.

      Discard the control handle. Retain the screws and locknuts for the reinstallation.

    1. Install the new control handle (9) onto the shaft of the base assembly.

      Secure the handle onto the shaft of the base assembly with the three screws (J) and the three locknuts (K) that were retained.

    1. Install the grommet on the harness into the slot on the base assembly. See Detail A in Illustration 12.

      Tie the harness wiring to the base assembly with two cable straps (1), as shown.

    1. Mate the electrical connector with connector CH-C4 on the 258-4160 Operator Controls Harness As . Secure the connectors with a cable strap (2) .

      Note: Ensure that the configuration of the harness connector matches the configuration that is provided in Table 3.

    1. Reinstall the four bolts (H) in order to secure the base assembly of the joystick.

    1. Reinstall outside cover (C) with the three screws (D) and screw (E). Also, tighten screw (F) .

  1. Reinstall the three windows in the left window frame. Refer to "Window - Clean" in the Operation and Maintenance manual for your machine.

  1. Install rocker switch (8) per Step 7.a through Step 7.d.

    1. Locate switch cover (L) which is part of the 258-4001 Control Panel . Remove switch cover (L) from the control panel. See Illustration 17.

      Note: The switch cover has provisions for four rocker switches. Use a thin blade screwdriver in order to release the locking tab on one side of the switch cover. Then, withdraw the switch cover from the panel.

    1. Remove plug (M) from the switch cover.

      Note: Remove the plug by pushing the plug from the back of switch cover (L) .

    1. Install rocker switch (8) in this open position, as shown. See Illustration 18.

      Note: Install the rocker switch by pushing the rocker switch into the opening in switch cover (L). Insert the rocker switch from the front of the switch cover. Push the rocker switch until the locking tabs on the rocker switch are engaged.

      (O) Harness connector L-C8

    1. Locate harness connector L-C8 on the 258-4101 Panel Harness As that is inside the 258-4001 Control Panel (LH). See Illustration 19.

      Connect the harness connector to the back of rocker switch (8) .

      Note: Ensure that the configuration of the harness connector matches the configuration that is provided in Table 4.

  1. A modification to the 258-4101 Panel Harness As is required on the machines without two-speed travel that are listed in Table 5.

    If the multifunction switch for the left-hand trigger is installed in the left-side control panel, modification to the 258-4101 Panel Harness As is NOT required. Therefore, skip Step 8 and continue to Step 9.

    1. Relocate jumper wire (N) so that jumper wire (N) is installed between Pin Position (2) and Pin Position (3). The pin positions are stamped into the side of the harness connector. See Illustration 22.

  1. Reinstall switch cover (L) into the 258-4001 Control Panel (LH). See Illustration 23.

  1. Install three relays (3) in Positions R1, R2, and R5 in the upper fuse panel. See Illustration 24.
