Auxiliary control manifold (1) is located under the operator platform, on the left side of the machine. The ports on the manifold are Labeled for identification.

The front face of the manifold contains nine solenoids in two columns. Five solenoids are located in the right column, and four solenoids are located in the left column. The following solenoids are located in the right column:

  • Screed lift solenoid (2)

  • Screed float solenoid (3)

  • Auger lift solenoid (4)

  • Hopper lower solenoid (5)

  • Parking brake solenoid (7)

The following solenoids are located in the left column:

  • Screed assist solenoid (8)

  • Auger lower solenoid (9)

  • Hopper lift solenoid (10)

  • Shift solenoid (11)

Screed Lift Solenoid

The screed lift switch on the active instrument panel controls the screed lift solenoid (2) . When the active screed lift switch is in the RAISE position, the screed lift solenoid is energized.

Screed Assist Solenoid and Screed Float Solenoid

Screed assist solenoid (8) and screed float solenoid (3) are controlled by the following switches: the screed lift switch on the left instrument panel, the screed lift switch on the right instrument panel and the screed counterbalance switch. The screed float solenoid is energized when both of the screed lift switches are in the FLOAT position and when the screed counterbalance switch is in the OFF position. In this situation, gravity causes the screed to lower to the ground.

Screed assist solenoid (8) is energized when both of the screed lift switches are in the FLOAT position and when the screed counterbalance switch is in the ON position. In this case, a pressure regulating valve limits the downward force that the screed exerts on the asphalt mat.

Auger Lift Solenoid and Auger Lower Solenoid

The auger lift switch on the active instrument panel controls auger lift solenoid (4) and controls auger lower solenoid (9) . When the active auger lift switch is in the RAISE position, the auger lift solenoid is energized. When the active auger lift switch is in the LOWER position, the auger lower solenoid is energized.

Hopper Lift Solenoid and Hopper Lower Solenoid

The hopper lift switch on the active instrument panel controls hopper lift solenoid (10) and controls hopper lower solenoid (5) . When the active hopper lift switch is in the RAISE position, the hopper lift solenoid is energized. When the active hopper lift switch is in the LOWER position, the hopper lower solenoid is energized.

Pressure Reducing Valve

The auxiliary manifold also contains pressure reducing valve (6) . This valve is installed upstream from shift solenoid (11) . The pressure reducing valve limits the pressure which is available to the shift solenoid to 4830 ± 345 kPa (700 ± 50 psi).

Flow Control Valve for Ventilation System

The auxiliary manifold contains a flow control valve for the fumes system. This valve is located between hopper lift solenoid (10) and shift solenoid (11) . The flow control valve limits the amount of oil which can be delivered to the fumes motor. The flow control valve cannot be adjusted.

Pilot Opened Check Valves

The auxiliary manifold contains four pilot opened check valves which are in the following locations:

  • In the line to the rod end of the right auger hoist cylinder

  • In the line to the head end of the left auger hoist cylinder

  • In the line to the head ends of the hopper hoist cylinders

  • In the line to the rod ends of the hopper hoist cylinders

These check valves ensure that the auger and the hopper cannot be raised or lowered unless the appropriate solenoids are energized. The pilot opened check valves require that pressurized oil be sent to one side of the cylinder before the return side of the cylinder is open to the tank.

Pressure Regulating Valve

(12) Pressure regulating valve

(13) Pressure gauge

(14) Pressure tap

When the screed assist solenoid is energized, pressure regulating valve (12) can be used to change the pressure in the rod ends of the screed hoist cylinders.

Pressure regulating valve (12) is equipped with a locknut and an adjustment spool. The locknut and the adjustment spool can be adjusted without tools. When the adjustment spool is rotated clockwise, the pressure in the rod ends of the screed hoist cylinders increases. This increased pressure decreases the downward force of the screed. Counterclockwise rotation of the adjustment spool decreases the pressure in the screed hoist cylinders.

Note: Both screed lift switches must be in the float position and the screed assist switch must be on before pressure can be seen.

Pressure Gauge

Pressure gauge (13) measures the screed counterbalance pressure. When the adjustment spool is turned fully counterclockwise, screed counterbalance pressure should be 173 kPa (25 psi). In order to determine the optimum setting, the pressure should be adjusted in 69 kPa (10 psi) increments. The maximum operating screed counterbalance pressure should be 1030 kPa (150 psi). If the pressure is adjusted above the recommended maximum setting, the screed will not float.

Note: The maximum possible screed counterbalance pressure is 2760 kPa (400 psi), but the maximum operating pressure should be limited to 1030 kPa (150 psi).

Pressure Tap

The shift pressure can be measured at pressure tap (14) in port "G1" of the auxiliary manifold.
