Front of Center Console (1) Grade circuit breaker (2) Implement circuit breaker (3) Propel circuit breaker (4) Left screed circuit breaker |
The following circuit breakers are located on the circuit breaker panel:
- Grade circuit breaker (1)
- Implement circuit breaker (2)
- Propel circuit breaker (3)
- Left screed circuit breaker (4)
This panel is located on the front of the center console. A decal which is below each circuit breaker identifies the function of the circuit breaker.
These circuit breakers receive power when the main power relay is energized.
Grade circuit breaker (1) transfers power to the following components:
- Left tow point switch (contact " 2")
- Right tow point switch (contact "2")
- Grade and slope relay (contact "30")
- Right grade and slope connector (contact "B")
- Left grade and slope connector (contact "B")
Implement circuit breaker (2) transfers power to the following components:
- Number three operator station select relay (contact "30")
- Left screed width switch on left screed operator station (contact "2")
- Left screed width switch on left extension control box (contact "2")
- Right screed width switch on right screed operator station (contact "2")
- Right screed width switch on right extension control box (contact "2")
- Screed lift switch on the left instrument panel (contact "5")
Propel circuit breaker (3) transfers power to the following components:
- Operator station selector switch (contact "2")
- Operator station status indicator on the left instrument panel
- Operator station status indicator on the right instrument panel
The left screed circuit breaker (4) transfers power to the following components:
- Tow point switch on the screed extension control box on the right side of the screed (contact "2")
- Tow point switch on the screed extension control box on the left side of the screed (contact "2")

Inside Center Console (5) "J1" connector (6) Machine ECM (7) "J2" connector |
Machine ECM (6) is mounted to the left side of the center console. This ECM has two 70-pin connectors. "J1" connector (5) is the top connector, and "J2" connector (7) is the bottom connector.
The operator station selector switch is the only input device to machine ECM (6) which has an impact on components in the auxiliary system. When the operator station selector switch is in the LEFT position, the machine ECM receives a signal at terminal "J2- 31". When the operator station selector switch is in the RIGHT position, the machine ECM receives an input signal at terminal "J2- 30".
Software inside machine ECM (6) analyzes the input signal from the operator station selector switch. The software also directs the appropriate output signal to the operator station status indicator, and directs a signal to the number three operator station select relay.
When the circuit at terminal "J2-30" of machine ECM (6) is complete, the ECM generates two output signals. Terminal "J2-33" sends the first output signal to the right operator station status indicator. Terminal "J2-14" sends the second output signal to "contact 86" of the number three operator station select relay.
When the circuit at terminal "J2-31" of machine ECM (6) is complete, the ECM generates an output signal from terminal "J2-32". This signal is sent to the left operator station status indicator.
Note: Machine ECM (6) is programmed with self-diagnostic logic. Service information can be accessed with the Caterpillar Monitoring System.

Inside Center Console (8) Grade and slope relay (9) Automatic grade and slope relay (10) Number three operator station relay |
The following relays are located inside the center console:
- Grade and slope relay (8)
- Automatic grade and slope relay (9)
- Number three operator station relay (10)
Note: A decal that is on the center console door shows the location of each component inside the center console.
Machine ECM (6) uses the input from the operator station selector switch to control number three operator station relay (10). When the operator station selector switch is in the LEFT position, this relay is de-energized. When the operator station selector switch is in the RIGHT position, the machine ECM energizes this relay.
When number three operator station relay (10) is de-energized, power transfers to the following components:
- Left screed lift switch
- Left truck hitch switch
- Left hopper lift switch
- Left auger lift switch
- Right screed extension switch on the left instrument panel
- Left screed extension switch on the left instrument panel
When the number three operator station relay (10) is energized, power is available at the following components:
- Right screed lift switch
- Right truck hitch switch
- Right hopper lift switch
- Right auger lift switch
- Right screed extension switch on the right instrument panel
- Left screed extension switch on the right instrument panel
The machine ECM monitors the propel mode switches and monitors the propel lever in order to control the grade and slope relay (8) .
The machine ECM energizes the coil of the grade and slope relay after a preset delay when the following conditions have been met:
- The propel mode switch is in the PAVE position.
- The propel lever is moved into the FORWARD range.
The grade and slope relay controls the coil of the automatic grade and slope relay (9).
