Fuel Priming Pump and Primary Filter (Water Separator) - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Turn the fuel shutoff valves to the OFF, as shown. Disconnect hose assemblies (5) from fuel filter base (3) .

  1. Disconnect harness assembly (2) from fuel filter base (3) .

  1. Drain the fuel from fuel filter (4) into a suitable container. Remove fuel filter (4) from fuel filter base (3). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct procedure.

  1. Remove bolts (1) and remove fuel filter base (3) .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install fuel filter base (3) and bolts (1) .

  1. Install fuel filter (4) to fuel filter base (3). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct procedure.

  1. Connect harness assembly (2) to fuel filter base (3) .

  1. Connect hose assemblies (5) to fuel filter base (3). Turn the fuel shutoff valves to the ON position.
