Schematic of the transmission direction and speed control lever |
This diagnostic code is associated with the transmission direction and speed control lever.
This FMI 02 is recorded when the Power Train Electronic Control Module (ECM) receives an incorrect signal from the transmission direction and speed control lever.
Note: Before troubleshooting one of these diagnostic codes, move the transmission direction and speed control lever through all positions. Ensure that the diagnostic code that is being analyzed is on hold.
Note: Table 1 contains wire numbers and connector contacts. Use this information to troubleshoot the failed circuit.
Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 0668 FMI 02 is active before performing this procedure.

Test Step 1. CHECK FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
- Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
- Disconnect the harness from the ECM.
- Activate the switch. At the harness connector for the ECM, check the resistance to ground of the normally closed contacts and the normally open contacts.
Expected Result:
The resistance check does not agree with Table 1.
Results:
- YES - The resistance check does not agree with the preceding Table. Proceed to Test Step 2.
- NO - The resistance agrees with the values in the preceding Table. Proceed to Test Step 3.
Test Step 2. CHECK THE SWITCH
- The key start switch and the disconnect switch remain in the OFF position.
- The machine harness remains disconnected from the ECM.
- Disconnect the machine harness from the switch.
- At the machine harness for the switch, check the resistance to ground of the normally closed contacts and the normally open contacts. Activate the switch when this check is being performed.
Expected Result:
The resistance check does not agree with the values in Table 1.
Results:
- YES - The resistance check does not agree with the preceding Table.
Repair: The switch or the switch harness has failed. Repair the switch or replace the switch.
Stop.
- NO - The resistance check agrees with the preceding Table. Proceed to Test Step 3.
Test Step 3. CHECK FOR A SHORT
- The machine harness remains disconnected from the switch and the ECM.
- The key start switch and the disconnect switch remain in the OFF position.
- Check the resistance from each switch contact at the harness connector for the ECM to all other connector contacts in J1 and J2.
Expected Result:
The resistance is less than 5 ohms.
Results:
- YES - The resistance is less than 5 ohms.
Repair: The harness has failed. Repair the harness or replace the harness.
Stop.
- NO - The resistance is greater than 5 ohms. The harness circuit is correct.
Repair: It is unlikely that the ECM has failed. Exit this procedure and perform this troubleshooting procedure again. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the ECM. Refer to Systems Operation, Troubleshooting, Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (Power Train) - Replace" for the machine that is being serviced.
Stop.
