Water Pump

Usage:

Remove & Install Main Water Pump

------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Drain the coolant only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap from the radiator slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to avoid personal injury.

1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system.

2. Disconnect hose (5) from elbow (4).

3. Loosen clamps (6).

4. Remove the bolts and retainers that hold tube (1) in place in elbow (4).

5. Disconnect hose (3) from the elbow.

6. Remove sensor (2).

7. Remove the bolts that hold elbow (4) to cover (9). Remove the elbow. Remove the O-ring seal.

8. Remove cover (9) and the O-ring seal.

9. Disconnect hose assembly (7) from the water pump. Remove the O-ring seal.

10. Fasten a hoist to water pump (8).

11. Remove the bolts that hold the water pump in place. Remove the water pump. The weight of the water pump is 29 kg (64 lb). Remove the O-ring seal.

NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the water pump.

12. Put clean engine oil on the O-ring seal. Install the O-ring seal.

13. Fasten a hoist to water pump (8). Put the water pump in position and install the bolts.

14. Put the O-ring seal in place. Connect hose (7) to the water pump.

15. Install the O-ring seal and cover (9) to the water pump.

16. Put clean engine oil on the O-ring seals. Make sure the O-ring seals are in position for tube (1) and cover (9).

17. Put elbow (4) in position on tube (1) and the water pump. Install the bolts that hold the elbow to the cover.

18. Install the retainers and bolts that hold tube (1) in position in the elbow.

19. Put hose (6) in position on elbow (4), and tighten the clamps that hold it in place.

20. Connect hose (5).

21. Connect hose (3) to the elbow.

22. Install sensor (2).

23. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. See the Operation and Maintenance manual for this information.
