Cab

Usage:

Remove & Install Cab

------ WARNING! ------

Regulations prohibit the venting of any refrigerant into the atmosphere. Refer to Caterpillar publications SENR3334-01 and NEDG5065-01 for the proper, equipment and tools to reclaim refrigerant from any Caterpillar machine.

Always wear goggles when working on air conditioning systems. The system is under pressure at all times, engine running or not. Escaping Refrigerant-12 (Dichlorodifluoromethane) can cause freezing of human flesh.

Do not smoke while working on air conditioning systems. INHALING REFRIGERANT-12 THROUGH ANY SMOKING MATERIAL, ALTHOUGH NOT TOXIC OR FLAMMABLE CAN GENERATE LETHAL PHOSGENE GAS AND CAUSE VIOLENT ILLNESS OR DEATH. ALSO, HEAT MUST NEVER BE APPLIED TO A CHARGED SYSTEM. See Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual, Form No. SENR3334-01, for more information on removal and installation of lines and refrigerant from the system.

--------WARNING!------

1. Close two valve assemblies (1) from the water pump to the heater group.

2. Remove the bolts and cover (2).

3. Open access door (3). Release the latch, and raise cushion (4).

NOTICE

Plug and cap all open lines to prevent coolant loss and system contamination.

Typical Example

4. Disconnect coupling (5) and (7) from the air conditioner evaporator core.

5. Disconnect heater hoses (6) and (8) from the heater core.

6. Remove bolts (9) and (10) and guard (11).

Typical Example

7. Put identification marks on all hoses and lines for correct installation. Disconnect hoses (12), (13), (14),(15) and (16).

8. Disconnect tube (17).

9. Disconnect electrical connectors (18) and (19).

Viewed from right rear of outside cab.

10. Put identification marks on all hose and electrical connectors attached to right rear cab panel (20). Disconnect the lines from panel (20) and set them aside, clear of the cab.

11. Disconnect dump linkage rod (21).

Typical Example

12. Fasten a hoist to platform (22) as shown. Remove the bolts and platform (22). Platform (22) weighs 84 kg (185 lb).

Typical Example

13. Remove the nut and bolt (23), and the nut and bolt (24) from ladder bracket assembly and frame.

Typical Example

14. Install tooling (A) to front panel assembly (25) as shown. Fasten a hoist to the ladder and to tooling (A).

15. Disconnect the wiring to the horn and headlamp assembly of front panel (25).

16. Remove the bolts from front panel (25). Use the hoist to lower front panel assembly (25). The weight of the assembly is 50 kg (110 lb).

17. Attach a hoist and chain to the top of the cab as shown.

Viewed from beneath the front of the cab.

18. Remove the four washers, sleeves and bolts (26) that attach the cab to the machine frame at each side of the cab front. For installation purposes, use 9S3263 Threadlock on the threads of bolts (26). The torque for bolts (26) is 1050 ± 150 N·m (775 ± 110 lb ft).

19. Remove the four washers, sleeves and bolts (27) that attach the cab to the machine frame at each side of the cab rear. For installation purposes, use 9S3263 Threadlock on the threads of bolts (27). The torque for bolts (26) is 2100 ± 250 N·m (1550 ± 185 lb ft).

NOTICE

Make sure all lines have been disconnected and moved clear of the cab before the cab is removed.

20. Use the hoist to remove the cab from the frame. The cab weighs 1180 kg (2600 lb).

NOTICE

Be sure all mating surfaces are clean and free of paint or grease prior to setting the cab in position on the frame.

21. Install the cab in the reverse order of removal.

22. After the cab has been installed make sure all lines and wires have been connected and secured in their original positions.

23. Purge the air conditioning system. See the topic, "Purging The System" located in the Air Conditioning And Service Manual, Form No. SENR3334 for the correct procedure.
