Brake Oil Coolers

Usage:

Remove & Install Brake Oil Coolers

1. Drain the oil from the hydraulic tank.

------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Drain the coolant only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap from the radiator slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to avoid personal injury.

2. Drain the coolant from the cooling system.

3. Disconnect hose assembly (1).

4. Disconnect hose assemblies (3) and (4).

5. Remove tube assembly (2).

6. Loosen the clamps and remove hose (5).

7. Disconnect two hose assemblies connected to block (6). Remove block (6).

8. Remove tube (7).

9. Remove the bolts and clamps from the engine end of tube (8). It will be removed with the brake oil coolers.

10. Disconnect hose assembly (11).

11. Remove block (13) and the tube.

12. Attach a hoist and two straps to the brake oil coolers. The three coolers, tubes (8) and (9) and bonnets (10) and (12) will be removed as a unit. The weight of the unit is approximately 1125 kg (2475 lb).

13. Remove the bolts that hold bonnets (10) and (12) to the brackets mounted on the engine. Lower the unit out of the engine compartment.

14. Put alignment marks on the brake oil coolers and bonnets (10) and (12). Remove the bonnets from the oil coolers.

NOTE: The following steps are for the installation of the brake oil coolers. Also, make sure the tubes in the oil coolers are clean and free of dirt and other foreign material.

15. Put clean engine oil on all of the O-ring seals.

NOTE: Bolts (14) must be inserted before the outer brake oil cooler is assembled

16. Make sure the gaskets and O-ring seals are in position and install bonnets (10) and (12) on the brake oil coolers.

17. Install tubes (8) and (9) as the brake oil coolers are raised into position. Raise the brake oil coolers into position with a hoist. Install the bolts that hold bonnets (10) and (12) to the brackets mounted on the engine.

NOTE: Be sure all seals are properly inserted in the following steps.

18. Install block (13) and the tube.

19. Connect hose assembly (11).

20. Install the bolts and clamps to the engine end of tube (8).

21. Install tube (7).

22. Install block (6). Connect two hose assemblies to block (6).

23. Install hose (5) and tighten the clamps.

24. Install tube assembly (2).

25. Connect hose assemblies (3) and (4).

26. Connect hose assembly (1).

27. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. See the Operation and Maintenance manual for this information.

28. Fill the hydraulic tank with oil to the correct level. See the Operation & Maintenance manual for this information.
