Usage:

Introduction

The 7X1400 Digital Diagnostic Tool (DDT) Group is a hand held diagnostic tool with necessary cables and carrying case.

It can service various applications depending on the Service Program Module (SPM) software that is installed.

NOTE: The 7X1915 Digital Diagnostic Tool (DDT) is not available separately.

NOTE: A conversion group must be ordered for the desired application.

It will consist of the necessary software (SPM), Operating Manual, and decals to make the 7X1400 Digital Diagnostic Tool (DDT) Group functional.

Service Program Module Installation

NOTE: Service Program Module updates for the DDT will be available through Caterpillar.


NOTICE

The service program module is packaged in a container to protect it from static discharge.

Before touching the module in the container, or removing from the DDT, be sure to discharge any static electricity in your body by touching a grounded surface.

Use care when opening to prevent damage to the Service Program Module.


1. Place DDT (1) face down on a clean and level surface.

2. Remove six screws (2) holding cover (3) in place and remove cover for access to DDT circuit board (4).

3. Locate Service Program Module Socket (5) on circuit board (4).


NOTICE

Use only finger pressure to remove or install a Service Program Module.

The use of any mechanical tool can damage the program module and/or socket.


4. Install Service Program Module (6) from Conversion Group into empty socket (5).

NOTE: The Service Program Modules and sockets are keyed so that they can only be installed in the correct (seated) position.

5. Reinstall cover panel (3) using six screws (2).

Decal Installation

1. Place 6V3072 Carrying Case (1) on a clean surface with the handle toward you as shown.

2. Remove paper backing of case decal (2) and install on case lid inset with bottom of decal facing handle side of case.

3. Place DDT (3) face down on a clean and level surface.

4. Remove paper backing of the DDT Back Graphic Decal (4) and install on DDT back cover.

Features

Liquid Crystal Display (LCD): The DDT contains a 16 character by 2 line LCD for displaying specific information and instructions.

Flat Membrane Switches: The DDT contains 16 flat membrane keys on a 4 by 4 keypad matrix.

Keys 0-9 are used to input numeric (numbers) data and the 6 function(s) keys provide operational control.

Service Program Module (SPM) Updates: The DDT software is contained on one Service Program Module (SPM).

The SPM can be easily removed and replaced for software updates.

Control Port (Data Link): The DDT will talk (communicate) with other vehicles and devices that adhere to the proprietary CAT Data Link using the 7X1685 Power Cable connected to this port with the appropriate adapter.

Power: The DDT power source comes from an external vehicle battery or any DC voltage source from 11 to 45 volts at 0.5 amps through the 7X1685 Power Cable with appropriate adapter.
