Dealer Service Tools announces the 285-0910 Multi-Tool Gp. This high-tech diagnostic tool incorporates the functionality of four individual green box tools: the 8T-2700 Blowby/Air Flow Indicator, the 8T-5200 Generator and Counter Signal Group, the 8T-1000 Electronic Position Indicator Gp and the 8T-5300 Engine Timing Indicator Group .

The multi-tool group has large buttons for easy use, even with gloved hands. The color display features large digits. The large digits are easier to read in bright sunlight. The multi-tool group's modular design will allow future updates and the addition of functionalities through software downloads. The following chart shows what is included in the basic multi-tool group.

    Table 1

    Quan.     Pt. No.     Description
    1     285-0908     Multi-Tool

The diagnostic interface module plugs into the multi-tool. The module adapts the various cables and sensors to the multi-tool. The multi-tool has three power options. The internal battery is a nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery. The universal power supply accepts 90 to 240 volts AC. The power supply includes power cords for worldwide use. The DC cable has alligator clips that connect directly to vehicle batteries. The DC cable can be used with battery systems that have outputs from 9 to 32 volts DC. The five-pin, DIN adapter connects the cables for the signal generator with counter to the diagnostic interface module. The 208-0903 Cable As provides a grounded cable that is required when using the small blowby/air flow indicator.

    Blowby/Air Flow Indicator

The blowby/air flow indicator measures the volume of blowby gases that are released through the crankcase breather. Blowby measurements provide helpful information for planning engine repairs. The tool also measures air flow through a component such as a radiator core. Air flow measurements help identify plugged or partially restricted areas of the radiator cores. Both a large blowby group and a small blowby group are available. The large blowby group measures blowby on all 3500 Series and 3600 Series Engines including ACERT models and the larger 300 Series Engines. The small blowby group measures blowby on the smaller 300 Series Engines. The small blowby group also measures blowby on models that are smaller than the 3500 Series Engines. The tool displays blowby and air flow. The tool also displays strip charts, maximum values and minimum values with the differences. Your technician can select SAE or metric units. The technician also can adjust the sample rate.

    Signal Generator with Counter

The signal generator with counter simulates the signal from a magnetic speed pickup for troubleshooting electronic controls. The tool also serves as a frequency counter for AC or pulsating DC input. The signal generator with counter can be used for the calibration of a number of electronic diagnostic tools. As part of the multi-tool, the signal generator with counter allows your technician to make frequency and amplitude adjustments simply by pushing a button.

    Electronic Position Indicator

The electronic position indicator works in applications such as rack measurements on an operating engine or on other rapidly changing, dynamic readings that do not allow the use of mechanical indicators. The tool displays displacement, a strip chart, as well as maximum and minimum values with differences. Your technician can select SAE or metric units and can adjust the sample rate.

    Engine Timing Indicator

The engine timing indicator measures engine timing on diesel engines and on natural gas engines. During the timing test, the multi-tool will chart engine RPM's versus degrees on the display.

    Ordering Information

First, you must order the basic 285-0910 Multi-Tool Gp. The multi-tool requires cables, adapters, and sensors in order to connect to a machine or to an engine. Most of the cables, adapters, and sensors were part of one or more of the green box tools. The existing cables, adapters, and sensors still can be used with the new multi-tool. Dealers can purchase new cables, adapters and sensors. The components are available individually or in groups as shown in the charts which follow. A special carrying case is available for storing all of the cables and sensors for the initial four tools. If desired, you must order the 285-0902 Carrying Case separately.

Finally, a software license card must be purchased for each individual tool that your technician intends to activate. The new multi-tool comes pre-programmed with the software for the four tools.Your technician activates each individual tool functionality by inserting the software license card into the multi-tool. Once the software license card activates the software, that specific tool functionality remains permanently available from the main menu. The software license card is disabled when the tool is activated. One software card will activate functionality only on a single multi-tool.
