(1) APC Hinged Panel

(2) Board for the APS Controller

The board (APC) (2) is located on the front hinged APC panel of the cabinet for the Flywheel. The controller (2) has the following functions:

  • Provision of resources to allow control of the system processor, FPGA, DSP, related memory devices, and configuration devices

  • Receiving, scaling, and processing analog telemetry information from the system that is being controlled

  • Provision of data channels to receive information from satellite boards in the system

  • Provision of data channels to send information to satellite boards in the system

  • Provision of communication to users or other systems via RS-232/422, Ethernet, modem, and CAN

  • Storage of calibration data and configuration data

  • Tracking of the date and time

Every 5 years replace the battery. The battery (B1) is a CR2032 Lithium.

Removal Procedure

Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, RENR7654, "Internal Component Preremoval Steps (Flywheel Cabinet)" in order to shut down the system and gain access to internal components.

NOTICE

Electrostatic discharge can damage integrated circuits or semiconductors if you touch bus connector pins. When not in use, keep the module in the static-shield bag. Follow these guidelines when you handle any module:

Touch a grounded object to discharge static potential.

Wear an approved wrist-strap grounding device.

Do not touch the bus connector or connector pins.

Do not touch circuit components inside the module.

If available, use a static-safe work station.

  1. Disconnect all connectors from the board (2). Verify each connector in order to make sure that the label is present and legible. Verify the labeling of each connector with the location of the connector. Refer to Illustration 2.

  1. Remove the seven screws from the edges of the board.

  1. Remove the two nuts from the upper two corners of the board.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the board (2) in the cabinet over the two threaded standoffs at the top two corners of the board.

  1. Install the seven screws onto the remaining standoffs around the edges of the board.

  1. Connect the wire connectors. Verify the labeling of each connector for proper placement. Refer to Illustration 2.

  1. Set the date of installation for each flywheel bearing. The date can be set in the UPSView display.

Note: Retrieve the following information from service records.

    • Devices > CS_HV 1 / 2 / (3 / 4)

    • Op. Params > Op. Group 5: > A / B Bearing Install Day

    • Op. Params > Op. Group 5: > A / B Bearing Install Month

    • Op. Params > Op. Group 5: > A / B Bearing Install Year

  1. Calibrate the board (2).

    DC Bus Open

  1. Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, RENR7654, "Flywheel Load Cell - Calibrate" and Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, RENR7654, "Flywheel DC Bus Current - Calibrate".

    DC Bus Closed

  1. Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, RENR7654, "Flywheel DC Bus Voltage - Calibrate", Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, RENR7654, "Flywheel Field Coil Current - Calibrate" and Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, RENR7654, "Rotor Position Sensor - Calibrate".
