There is a new process for measuring the amount of oil that is allowed to pass from the air compressor to the air brake system. The new 261-0940 Test Kit contains the information and the tooling that is necessary for this new process. The process uses a calibrated measuring cup to drain the fluids from all of the air tanks. The kit helps to determine the amount of oil that is allowed to crossover into the air tank. The test results, and other information is recorded on a data sheet that is included in the kit.
A DVD that is included in the test kit contains an instructional video for viewing. The instructional video explains the operation of the air brake's charging system and the test procedure that is used. The instructional video also explains the air dryer's function in removing oil from the system prior to crossing into the air tanks. Air compressors are expected to pass up to 3 cc (0.18 cu in) of oil per hour of operation. The dryer is designed to remove most of the oil prior to entering the air brake system.
For warranty claims, complete the instructions that are explained in the test kit and submit the information with the claim. A replacement authorization number must be obtained prior to submitting the claim. An authorization number can be obtained by calling (888) 887-3626. This number is available 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday, Central Standard Time in the United States.
If the test is completed outside the hours that are mentioned above and the customer cannot wait until the next business day to replace the air compressor, replace the compressor and call for an authorization number as soon as possible.
A completed copy of the worksheet and a return authorization number must accompany all requests for a warranty claim. To submit a claim, place a copy of the worksheet with the authorization number into an envelope that has a leakproof seal. Attach that envelope to the air compressor and send the exchange core to Corinth through the normal system. This process should be followed even if a remanufactured component was not used to make the repair.
Compressors that are returned without a replacement authorization number will be bench tested for oil passing during an inspection of the compressor at the factory. If the amount of oil that passed is acceptable, the warranty claim will be denied and the compressor will be returned.
If a warranty claim is requested on a compressor that is returned with a return authorization number, the claim will be paid regardless of the results of the bench test. This claim will be paid for correctly following the diagnostic process that is stated in the test kit.
