Improved water temperature regulators are now used. Debris from the cooling system can cause the regulator to stick. Debris from the cooling system tends to wedge between the guide tube and the piston. The debris causes the regulator to stick. To prevent this type of situation, a lip type seal (1) has been added between the guide tube and the piston. The seal prevents the debris, and the sticking that can result.
Note: The seal cannot be installed into the regulators in the field. A new regulator must be purchased.
The regulators that have the seal are the 247-7133 Water Temperature Regulator and the 248-5513 Water Temperature Regulator. The 247-7133 Water Temperature Regulator has a fully open temperature of 98 °C (208 °F). The 248-5513 Water Temperature Regulator has a fully open temperature of 92 °C (198 °F).
The regulators are identified by a part number that is stamped on the regulator. There is a "+" sign that is stamped before the part number and after the part number. As this change is incorporated in the future the part numbers of the regulators will not be changed. The only way to know that the seal is present is the "+" sign that is stamped on the regulator.
