After the installation of the Product Link is complete, the unit must be properly configured using the Electronic Technician (ET). This section describes the actions that are required in order to complete the Product Link installation. Also, this section explains the various screens and configurations that exist within the ET for Product Link. For more information on Electronic Technician, see Troubleshooting, "Service Tools".

Initial Setup

Start the ET

If you are unfamiliar with ET, see Testing And Adjusting, "Service Tools" for more information on the Electronic Technician (ET). You must use ET version 3.1 or higher in order to configure the Product Link.

Select the Product Link

List Of Available ECMs

After the ET has started, a screen appears with a list of available ECMs. Select the Product Link as shown in illustration 1.

Enter Machine Service Meter Unit

After selecting Product Link, the ET will show the ECM Summary Screen. The Total Operating Hours must be set in Product Link to match the current SMU (Service Meter Units) reading on the machine. This value can be obtained from one of the following sources: Machine Service Meter, Caterpillar Monitoring System, Computerized Monitoring System and Vital Information Monitoring System (VIMS).

Product Link "Totals" Screen

Select "Information" from the ET pull-down menu. as shown in illustration 2.Then, select "Current Totals" in order to select the Product Link "Totals" Screen as shown in illustration 3. Select "Total Operating Hours" and select the "Change" button in the lower left corner of the screen in order to allow editing this value.

Changing Machine Service Meter Value

Enter the new Machine Service Meter reading. The field accommodates one digit to the right of the decimal. An example is "123.4 ". Select "OK" as shown in illustration 4.

Note: ET accepts hours with one digit to the right of the decimal, but only displays whole numbers. This procedure should be followed if the service hour meter is replaced so that the Product Link hours match the hours that are diplayed on the machine.
