C1.5 and C2.2 Generator Caterpillar

Self-excited generators may lose the residual magnetism that normally exists in the exciter field and the main field. Residual magnetism is necessary to start the generation process. The magnetism can be restored by flashing exciter field with direct current. A 12 VDC battery can be used to supply the direct current.

Connect the 12 V battery to terminals "E+" and "E-" on the voltage regulator for 2 to 3 seconds. Connect the "+" battery terminal to the "E+" terminal on the voltage regulator and connect the "-" battery terminal to the "E-" terminal on the voltage regulator.
