Introduction:
The 4P-9048 Control Assembly is used in 3114 MUI Engines. The 102-7459 Control Assembly is used in 3116, and 3126 MUI Engines.
Adaptable To:
The 4P-9048 Control Assembly replaces the former 7C-1514 Control Assembly in the 7W-8600 Fuel Injection Control Group. The 102-7459 Control Assembly replaces the former 4P-9047 Control Assembly in the 7W-6989 Fuel Injection Control Group.
The 4P-9048 Control Assembly and 102-7459 Control Assembly provides close clearance shaft bearings and requires different procedures for installation than the former 7C-1514 Control Assembly and 4P-9047 Control Assembly.
The bearing supports on the former 7C-1514 Control Assembly were factory set.
The 4P-9048 Control Assembly and 102-7459 Control Assembly center supports are now tightened AFTER installation on the engine.
Installation of the 4P-9048 Control Assembly (3114 Engines):
1. See end view of bearing support (D). Assure two screws (1) in inner bearing bracket (B) are loose.
2. Tighten bolts (2) for the outer bearing brackets (A and C) to a torque of 12 ± 3 N·m (9 ± 2 lb ft).
3. Tighten bolts (2) for the inner bearing bracket (B) to a torque of 12 ± 3 N·m (9 ± 2 lb ft).
4. Position the inner bearing (B) to allow free rotation of the rack control rod.
5. Tighten two screws (1) on inner bearing bracket (B) to 3.5 ± .2 N·m (31 ± 2 lb in).
6. Control rod must rotate when force of 4.4 N (1 lb) or less is applied to control lever (3) in direction indicated by arrows.
Installation of the 102-7459 Control Assembly (3116/3126 Engines):
1. See end view of bearing support (E). Assure that two screws (1) in each inboard bracket (B and C) are loose.
2. Tighten bolts (2) for outer bearing brackets (A and D) to a torque of 12 ± 3 N·m (9 ± 2 lb ft).
3. Tighten bolts (2) for inner bearing brackets (B and C) to a torque of 12 ± 3 N·m (9 ± 2 lb ft).
4. Position the inner (B and C) bearings to allow free rotation of the rack control rod.
5. Tighten two screws (1) on each inboard bracket to a torque of 3.5 ± .2 N·m (31 ± 2 lb in).
NOTE: The control rod must rotate when a force of 4.4 N (1 lb) or less is applied to control lever (3) in direction indicated by arrows.
