Upgrading The 3176 (7LG1-7499) 325 Horsepower Truck Engine To 350 Horsepower{1902}

Usage:

3176 Truck Engine (325 hp) (7LG1-7499)

Introduction

This instruction provides information and parts necessary to upgrade the 3176 Truck Engine (7LG1-7499) from 325 hp to 350 hp. The new rating is 350 hp at 1900 rpm with 1250 ft lbs of torque at 1200 rpm.

NOTE: This upgrade will require chassis changes to certain truck models. These changes may include increasing the capacity of cooling, charge air core and/or exhaust systems.

NOTE: Use the values from the table to communicate engine requirements to your OEM dealer. Assistance from the OEM factory will likely be required to identify required changes.

NOTE: Failure to make required changes may subject you to EPA civil penalties and may result in problems with performance, fuel economy, overheating, and/or engine failure.

NOTE: This upgrade ONLY applies to (325 hp) 3176 Truck Engines (7LG1-7499).

Reference: Service Manual, Special Instruction SEHS9349.. Tool Operating Manual.. Using the NEXG4522 Truck Engine Functions Dual Service Program Modules.

Personality Module

NOTE: This upgrade ONLY applies to (325 hp) 3176 Truck Engines (7LG1-7499).

1. Turn Key Switch "OFF" (disconnect ECM electrical power).

2. Install the new personality module supplied in 115-3011 Upgrade Kit.

3. Turn Key Switch "ON" (connect ECM electrical power).

4. Connect ECAP.

5. Change and confirm new Personality Module Code.

* ENTER "0" for the Personality Module Code to Rerate the engine to the new 350 hp rating. (Personality Module Code will change from "11" to "30").
* The personality module code is entered in the "Read/Change System Configuration Parameter" ECAP Screen. This change is protected by Factory Specified Passwords to prevent unauthorized changes.

6. Check for active Diagnostic Code 253-02 Check Customer or System Parameters.

If Active reprogram the Customer or System Parameters listed on the ECAP.

Complete the following steps to Reprogram the "Cruise Switch Configuration" Customer Parameter (if required).

* Toggle from "SET/ACCEL-RES/DECEL" to "SET/DECEL-RES/DECEL" (Press RETURN and answer the question "Are you sure you want to change this parameter (Y or N)?" with "Y" then RETURN). The Tattletale will increase and Diagnostic Code will clear.
* Toggle from "SET/DECEL-RES/ACCEL" to "SET/ACCEL-RES/DECEL" (Press RETURN and answer the question "Are you sure you want to change this parameter (Y or N)?" with "Y" then RETURN). This will set the parameter back to the original selection.

7. Make a SIMS history entry for Part Number 115-3011 to record this upgrade.

4W-5140 Parts Service Information Plate, Engine Information Plate and Certification Label

1. Transfer (stamp) the current AR NO. (Arrangement Number) in the MODIFICATION NO. space on the existing 9L-6531 Engine Information Plate.

2. Stamp a 4W-5140 Parts Service Information Plate with the following information:

* AR NO (Arrangement Number) 115-3012
* PERF SPEC (Performance Specification) 2T-6419
* MAX ALT (Maximum Altitude) 2250
* POWER 350 hp 261 kW
* BARE ENG. HIGH IDLE rpm 1920
* FULL LOAD rpm 1900
* FUEL TIMING 5.0

Use the original plate as a reference to transfer the remaining block information to the new plate.

3. DO NOT remove the original 9L-6531 Engine Information Plate.

4. Clean the face of the original 9L-6531 Engine Information Plate.

5. Remove the protective backing from the 4W-5140 Parts Service Information Plate.

Break off the lower section of the plate at the scribed mark.

6. Use 8T-9021 Adhesive to provide a permanent bond between the two plates.

NOTE: Follow the instructions on the adhesive package CAREFULLY. The adhesive and catalyst are applied in sequence from two separate containers and will NOT bond permanently if applied premixed.

7. Position new plate over original plate so that the AR NO. block of each plate is aligned. When positioned correctly, press the new plate firmly onto the original plate.

Certification Label

The original Certification Label is located on the engine valve cover.

1. Clean the surface of the original Certification Label.

2. Remove the protective backing from new label and install the new label onto the original certification label.
