Engine Starting with Air Inlet Heater

Usage:

CP-433C 1ZN
Use the following procedure to start the engine.

------ WARNING! ------

If equipped with an air inlet heater (AIH) for cold weather starting, do not use aerosal types of starting aids such as ether. Such use could result in an explosion and personal injury.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

To prevent personal injury, be sure all personnel are clear of the machine. Sound the horn for several seconds before starting the engine.

----------------------

NOTICE

Do not crank the engine for more than 30 seconds. Allow the starter to cool for two minutes before cranking again.

Turbocharger damage can result, if the engine rpm is not kept low until the engine oil pressure indicator goes out, verifying the engine oil pressure is sufficient.

Key must be in run position with the engine idling to maintain electrical and hydraulic functions and prevent serious machine damage.

If the engine does not start, return the key to OFF before returning it to START.

Note: The air inlet heater is a cold weather starting aid. Startability will be improved at temperatures below 16°C (60°F) by the use of the air inlet heater.

Open the access door on the left side of the machine. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.

The following conditions must be met in order to start the machine.

  1. Move propel control lever (2) to the STOP position.

  1. Move vibration switch (3) to the OFF position.

  1. Move throttle control switch (4) to the FAST position.

  1. Turn ignition switch (6) to the ON position.

    NOTICE

Do not push the air inlet heater switch for more than 30 seconds without attempting to start the engine. Allow the inlet heater 60 seconds to cooldown if the engine is not cranked.

  1. Push air inlet heater switch (5) for at least 10 seconds and up to a maximum of 30 seconds. This depends on the outside air temperature.

  1. In order to crank the engine, turn ignition switch (6) to the START position. When the engine starts, release the key. Do not operate the starter for more than 15 seconds.

Note: When you are cranking the engine, and warming the engine up the air inlet heater can be used, as needed.

  1. Disengage starter (6), if the engine does not start. Continue to depress toggle switch (5) .

  1. Repeat step 7 after 10 seconds.

  1. When the engine starts, continue to depress the toggle switch until the engine runs smoothly.

  1. Push throttle control switch (4) to the SLOW position after you start the engine.
